Lange first Tech golfer to receive NCAA bid

Regionals to start May 15 in San Antonio

Louisiana Tech sophomore Victor Lange made history Monday as he became the first golfer in school history to receive a bid to compete at the NCAA Regionals. Lange will compete at the San Antonio Regional at Briggs Ranch Golf Club on May 15-17.
Lange is one of 10 individuals selected for the San Antonio Regional along with 13 teams in the field. The top five teams and top individual not on those five teams advance to the NCAA Championships.

Aggies fall in extra innings

The Choudrant High School Aggies fell Monday night in a hard-fought, back-and-forth Class B baseball playoff game at CHS. The second-seeded Aggies were knocked off by No. 15 Simpson 7-6 in nine innings.

Lady Cougars beat odds

Congratulations to the Cedar Creek Lady Cougars, the queens of Class 1A softball after bringing home a state softball championship this weekend and winning a pair of games Saturday to win the title.
Getting the title wasn’t easy as Cedar Creek played the role of Cinderella, making history as the lowest-seeded team to win a Class 1A championship since the LHSAA switched to a seeded postseason system before the 2008 season.
Even better, the Cougars did so against a team that the Lady Cougars and Head Coach Julie Riser have a long history with.

Livestock still popular among 4-H'ers

Livestock is still one of the popular projects that we have in 4-H. One of the important things to realize is that a livestock project can be for anyone. It’s not just about teaching young people to raise animals. In fact, the primary purpose of the youth livestock program is to provide an opportunity for personal growth and development of a young person. Learning how to feed, fit and show an animal is a secondary purpose.

Funeral services for Mr. Marvin Leon Brazzel, age 72 of Dubach, will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Corinth Baptist Church near Dubach. Officiating the service will be Rev. Scott Jennings and Rev. DeWayne Ramsey. Burial will follow in Corinth Cemetery under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston. Mr. Brazzel was born March 12, 1942 in Corinth to Marion Frank Brazzel and Florence Holley Brazzel. He died May 5, 2014 in Ruston. Mr.

Fourth graders from Cedar Creek School enjoyed the annual White House Dinner at Squire Creek Country Club on Friday.
The goal of the dinner, which is an annual event, is to teach students the proper way to cut meat, which utensils to start and end with, common courtesy, proper attire and other basic etiquette standards.
“Fourth- and fifth-grade social studies classes have a whole unit of government they learn at the end of the year and this dinner ties that all up,” Teacher Tracie Rugg said.

Man charged with cruelty to a child

Witnesses: Suspect struck boy’s head on vehicle

A Ruston man faces charges of cruelty to a juvenile and aggravated battery in connection with a weekend incident involving a 10-year-old.
Walter Leshun Atkins, 38, was arrested Saturday after he allegedly choked a juvenile and then repeatedly hit the child’s head on the hood of a parked car. The incident happened at Green Acres Mobile Home Park after the child reportedly tried to get a soda from a cooler.

Amending leadership

LPSB to consider new principals, staff

The Lincoln Parish School Board will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday to discuss bids on upcoming projects, personnel changes and several other issues in its regular session.
School Superintendent Danny Bell will recommend the board accept a base bid of $1,539,000 submitted by Triad Builders for the construction of renovations and additions to Cypress Springs Elementary.
