Litigation possible for game forfeiture

The football team may be back out on the field for Grambling State University, but repercussions from the recent protest and boycott that resulted in forfeiting a game to Jackson State University are far from over.
Officials from Jackson State University issued a statement Tuesday saying that they plan to pursue litigation against Grambling State and others.

Performance on tap at the Dixie

Bridger to incorporate more than music

The Dixie Center for the Arts will play host to modern-day Renaissance man Bobby Bridger at 7 p.m. tonight.
Bridger’s artwork has been on display in the lobby of the Dixie.
John Emory, president of the Dixie board of directors, said Bridger blends American history and theater to bring historical characters to life through song, and to demonstrate unique perspectives of the great Euro-American westward migration, American mythology, the plains Indians and the development of American culture during this time.

Museum gets ‘new’ gun

This month, the Louisiana Military Museum put an 1895 Colt Browning Machine Gun, used in the Spanish-American War, on display.
Ernest Stevens, director for the Louisiana Military Museum, said the “Potato Digger,” as it is informally known, is very rare.
“This piece has been on my ‘want list’ for 20 years,” Stevens said.
“It is a very rare piece of militaria, and we are proud to have it exhibited at our museum.”
Stevens said this frontline gun was in use for almost 50 years.

Smith, Nicholson to marry

Veronica Williams, of Ruston, and Joey Smith, of Choudrant, are pleased to announce the engagement and approaching wedding of their daughter Katie Smith, of Ruston, to Jordan Nicholson, of Ruston.

Katie is the granddaughter of Bobby and Joyce Kay Smith, of Choudrant.

She is a 2007 graduate of Ruston High School and a 2011 graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where she played softball.

Katie is currently employed at Sterling Pharmacy in marketing development.

Douglas, Smith to unite in matrimony

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Douglas, of Lafayette, are pleased to announce the engagement and approaching wedding of their daughter Kathryn Nicole Douglas and Theodore Littleton Smith.

The bride elect is the granddaughter of Peggy Douglas, of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, and the late Billy Douglas, Sr., Carolyn Volentine, of Farmerville, and the late Robert Singleton.

She is a 2005 graduate of Beau Chene High School and a 2010 graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Nicole is currently employed as an ELA teacher at Milton Junior High in Lafayette.
