No longer jealous of 'big city' life

It takes different strokes for different folks.
For instance, the older I get the happier I am to live in a small town. But for many people, the slow-paced lifestyle just doesn’t suit.
I just came back from a three-day trip to New Orleans and although I had a wonderful time, I wanted to do the whole get-on-your-knees-and-kiss-the-ground thing when I crossed the Lincoln Parish line.
While in New Orleans I saw Elton John in concert (it was really good), went shopping, visited friends, ate fancy food, ate some more fancy food, met a lot of new people and wore myself slap out.

Robertson, Davis to wed in June at Temple

Robert and Ellen Davis, of Ruston, are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Amanda Davis, of Ruston, to Matt Robertson, of Ruston, son of Kenny and Michelle Robertson.

Amanda is the granddaughter of Joyce Davis, of Minden, the late James Davis, the late Gayle and Myrtle Morris.

Matt is the grandson of Jack and Mary Sumler, of Hot Springs Village, Ark., and Garner “Jr.” and Nelda Robertson, of Pasadena, Texas.

Wise, Tucker to marry in April

Roy and Tammy Wise, of Ruston, are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Emily Melissa Wise, of Ruston, to Christopher Scott Tucker, of Eunice, son of James and Arlene Tucker.

Emily is the granddaughter of Johnny Hester, the late Genny Hester, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lee Wise Sr., Vic and Barbara Dispensza, Jerry and Nina Mobley and the late Henry Dale.

Christopher is the grandson of the late Ludwig and the late Esther Bieber Casselmann, the late Jack Tucker and Lonnie Kee Tucker.

Moses, Lewis to wed

Mr. and Mrs. John Gerald Moses, of West Monroe, are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Elizabeth Earl Moses to Logan Lewis, of Ruston, son of Luke and Donna Lewis, of Dubach.

Elizabeth is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Earl H. Vigg, of Monroe. 
Logan is the grandson of E.J. “Coach” Lewis and the late Patsy Lewis and Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Crowson, of Hodge. 

The bride elect is a graduate of The Creative Circus Advertising School of Atlanta.

Cypress Springs: Students enjoy a sweet Mardi Gras snack

Students in Pat Albritton’s Advanced Learning Academy class at Cypress Springs Elementary welcomed parents, grandparents and special guests to participate in a special Mardi Gras event at the school. The open house program showcased their individual floats as well as fresh New Orleans beignets and juice for all that attended as they celebrated the Mardi Gras season together.

Ruston Rotary Club honors senior students

The Ruston Rotary Club proudly announces the recipients of the March Student of the Month Awards. Each student honoree spoke to the club members about their accomplishments at the March 19 luncheon and was then presented an award of achievement. Each awardee has maintained a minimum GPA of 3.5 and been active in extracurricular activities and leadership roles on their prespective school campus.

LSMSA: Visiting professor, three guests speak to students

Natchitoches — The Department of Science at the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts continued its Science Speaker Series on Feb. 7 with a presentation by Dr. Rastko Selmic of the College of Engineering and Science at Louisiana Tech University.
Selmic, the AT&T Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering, presented “Flying Sensors.” The presentation was sponsored by the Louisiana Board of Regents SoS Program.

Allie Lann Lomax

Allie Lann Lomax, native of Ruston, LA, and resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2014, at age 89. She was a retired registered nurse.

She is survived by her daughter, Theresa Louise Lomax; son, William (Bill) Lomax, Jr.; and a grandchild, Tiffany Lomax. Preceded in death by her parents, Iva Lee Kennedy and James Lann; two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral service will be at Sherwood Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, LA on Saturday, March 29, at 11:00 a.m. conducted by the pastor, Dr. David Womack.
