Try to maintain a diversified portfolio

in
Conville, Bobby 2014.jpg

While it is always important to maintain a diversified portfolio, it is especially vital to remain diversified during volatile market conditions. As an investor, you should be careful not to get caught up in any panic selling and should maintain your focus on long-term goals. This point is especially key if you have already built a well-diversified portfolio. If you are concerned about any particular securities, it may be better to discuss these with your financial advisor before cashing out.

The days are getting longer and warmer — a sure indication of the arrival of spring. Another sign of the season may be the urge you get to do some spring cleaning. But you might not have realized that some of the same spring-cleaning techniques that can be used on your home can also apply to your investments and your overall financial strategy.

Don’t just fear — focus

in
Moore, Byron.jpg

Question: I have always tried to teach my children not to be afraid, to not back down. I recently talked my youngest (who is in his 20s) into not taking all his money out of his retirement plan just because he thought everything was going to you know where. What’s the best way to tell someone to not be afraid of the financial markets?
Answer: I would never intentionally teach my children to not be afraid.
On the other hand, I do want them to be courageous. There’s a difference.

Pistol Pete: A human highlight film

in
Davis, OK.jpg

Forty-five years ago, a shaggy-haired and floppy-socked youngster turned the college basketball world upside down with his off-the-planet shooting skills.
I am talking about none other than Pistol Pete.
No last name required.
But for official documentation and for those unfamiliar with his dismantling of the NCAA record manual, it’s Maravich.
Pete Maravich, whose name and legendary impact on the game has been revived during the madness of this March with the scoring exploits of Creighton All-American Doug McDermott.

After playing 21 innings over the course of two games, Louisiana Tech managed to win one in thrilling fashion and fall in the latter to Old Dominion, who completed the series victory Saturday afternoon at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
In the first game of the doubleheader, Tech (8-14, 3-6 Conference USA) trailed Old Dominion (14-10, 4-5 C-USA), 6-4, after seven innings of play, but two runs in the eighth tied the game to set up a three-run walk-off home run by senior catcher Tyler Qualls in the bottom of the 12th inning to give the Bulldogs a 9-6 victory.

White River offers more than good fishing

in
032314 Gastons 1 C.jpg

When my invitation arrives every year about this time, I start counting the days.
Then the appointed morning finally arrives and I pack my little CRV, point it north toward Lakeview, Ark., and drive eight hours until my Tom Tom tells me I’m on River Road, the last major waypoint where I see the sign telling me I’ve reached my destination. There on the right is the sprawling complex I have come to love —Gaston’s White River Resort.
