GSU splits doubleheader with Ala. A&M

GRAMBLING — Alabama A&M pulled away in the second half Monday night as the Bulldogs nabbed a 70-58 road win over Grambling State before a crowd of 1,735 at the Frederick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
The loss dropped GSU to 1-10 overall and 0-2 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play while Alabama A&M is now 5-7 and 2-0.

Kudos to GSU students

Most college students don’t waste any time in leaving town and heading home for the holidays.
But that wasn’t the case over the recent holidays as a group of Grambling State University students lent a helping hand in preparing for the Advocare Independence Bowl at Independence Stadium in Shreveport.

New Year time to reaffirm nature in our lives

It is a New Year and now is a good time for gardeners to reaffirm their link with nature and recognize that living things like plants and wildlife have places in our lives.
Gardens teach us to sustain and appreciate the living world, not just use it. A New Year resolution of environmentally friendly gardening is one which can be made and easily kept throughout the year. Landscaping and vegetable gardening activities which can be implemented by gardeners to reduce pollution, conserve water and enhance the environment.

CHS FFA visit local nursing homes

The Choudrant High School Future Farmers of America officers visited local nursing homes to distribute Christmas ornaments. Agriscience students at Choudrant made the wooden ornaments as woodworking projects.
The FFA officer team enjoyed the opportunity to visit with experienced members of the community.

Mr. Max Lewis Cooper

A memorial service for Mr. Max Lewis Cooper, age 68 of Dubach, will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston. Officiating the service will be Rev. Henry Watts. Services are under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston. Mr. Cooper was born September 7, 1946 in Homer to E. M. Cooper and Audrey Jordan Cooper. He died January 6, 2014 in Ruston. Mr. Cooper was an oilfield dispatcher for many years before retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing cards and being with his friends. Mr.
