LINCOLN Total Community Action, Inc. will receive bids on the food items listed below. Bids can be received on or before August 2, 2013 - 3:00pm.
Food Items - Milk and Milk Products
Bids will be opened and read on Monday , August 5, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the Paul E. Slaton Head Start Center, located on 1400 Oakdale Street, Ruston, LA. The Agency reserves the right to accept or reject any and all bids and to waive any informalities.

Truck uses illegal turning lane

At approximately 12:19 p.m. Monday an 18-wheeler with a permitted load was traveling east on Interstate 20 attempted to cut through the median of through an illegal turning lane. Lamar H. Clack Jr., 51, of Shreveport, reportedly missed his exit in Ruston and assumed he could make the cut-through road in the median. Louisiana State Police Sgt. Floyd McElroy said a permitted load is only allowed to travel the route designated. Clack was written two citations — improper driving on a divided highway and improper driving left of center with a permitted load.

Lyons brings opportunity to less fortunate

Ronnie Lyons, 64, is the supervisor of the Ruston Housing Authority. Lyons has been the man integral part of putting together the Eddie G. Robinson Football Camp held on July 21, and Saturday’s Wilbert Ellis Baseball Clinic.
Lyons has been at work with the Ruston Housing Authority for 42 years, starting in the 1970s. Lyons receives requests from those who want to start a camp, and he moves to coordinate with sponsors. He readies the facilities, coordinates with sponsors and involves volunteer help to bring the camp to life.

Tech receives $200k gift

Louisiana Tech University’s College of Engineering and Science has received a generous gift of more than $200,000 from Hunt, Guillot and Associates (HGA) of Ruston, La. and members of the Jack Canterbury family, to support construction of the College’s new engineering and science education building.

What to remember while garden housekeeping

We are well into the warm season blooming period of many landscape plants. The first flowers have given their all and have faded and dried on the plant. Now is the time to do a little plant housekeeping and one operation which can be beneficial to flowering plants is removing the spent flowers. Removal of the dried flowers is called “deadheading.”

LPL hosts singer

The Lincoln Parish Library is proud to announce they will be hosting Singer/Songwriter “Riverboat” John Ferguson at 2 p.m.Thursday, in the Library Events Center. “Riverboat” John’s style of entertainment is suitable for audiences of all ages and has received rave reviews from those attending his concerts.
“Rivers Remembered,” is a show that has developed as a result of “Riverboat John’s” love of the river, the music, the lore, customs, heritage, history, romance and intrigue.

More than 40,000 member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., descended upon Washington, D.C. July 11-18 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the sorority. Two local members made time to visit U.S. Congressman Rodney Alexander. Club News: Caney Lake Good Sams

The beautiful Lincoln Parish was the setting for the June 26 - 29 monthly campout for the Caney lake Sams. Hosts Tom and Kay Church and Dan and Linda Evans began the campout with everyone meeting at the camp-house located next to the RV campground. Each person brought their own “brow n bag special” with pies and cookies for dessert.

C-USA Football Media Day set for Wednesday

Conference USA’s 2013 Football Media Day is set for Wednesday in Irving, Texas. The league’s head coaches and one student-athlete from each school will be on hand to preview the upcoming season with head coach Skip Holtz and defensive end IK Enemkpali representing Louisiana Tech.
C-USA followers will enjoy significant coverage of Wednesday’s event and throughout the weeks leading up to the beginning of the season.
