Kyser finishes in NCAA’s Top 15

Head Coach Michael White and his Bulldogs’ basketball team of 2012-13 had a season to remember at Louisiana Tech University.
Now, with the final official stamp of approval by the NCAA for statistics, there’s some more applause due for the ’Dogs.
And while Tech fans were already aware of it, forward Michael Kyser and his shot-rejecting expertise have earned additional confirmation with his Top 15 finish in that department.
The 6-9 and 210-pound sophomore from Lancaster, Texas, is No. 15 with an average of 2.71 blocks per contest.

DENVER — Louisiana Tech University bowler Kayla Ghersini is one of the nominees from the Western Athletic Conference for the 2013 NCAA Woman of the Year award
Joining Ghersini as one of the candidates from the league are Seattle University volleyball player Kelly Biette and New Mexico State softball player Amber Olive.

Davison is state champ again

CHOUDRANT — Sarah Davison, a former collegiate All-American and Louisiana women’s state amateur champion in 2009, pulled the clubs out of the closet two weeks ago and Tuesday captured her second title at the 85th Louisiana Women’s Golf Association Amateur Champion played at beautiful Squire Creek Country Club.
Going by the title of “Mom” now after having twins two years ago, Davison, with husband Steve handling the caddy duties throughout the week, played consistently well while winning four straight matches, despite having played only “about a dozen rounds” over the past two years.

Johnson to host free hoops’ camp

Theodis Johnson, the head coach of Dubach High School’s Class C Louisiana High School Athletic Association girls’ basketball team this season, is hosting a free two-day basketball camp starting today.
The clinic, open to boys and girls in grades one-through-12, will be held at the East End Park in Ruston today and Friday and stress the basics and fundamentals of the sport.
Each day’s session will start at 5:30 p.m.

Scouts earn Arrow of Light Award

Members of Ruston's Cub Scout Pack No. 59 were presented with the Arrow of Light Award on May 11 at the Pack's annual Blue and Gold Banquet held at The Gospel. The Blue and Gold Banquet is the end of year graduation ceremony for Cub Scouts where scouts earn their rank awards, as well as other special awards. The Arrow of Light Award is Cub Scouting's highest honor, and is presented to scouts who have completed a specific set of requirements during their Webelos years (fourth through fifth grades).

Local Bar Association volunteers for ‘Junior Judges’

Members of the Lincoln Parish Bar Association recently volunteered their time in order to conduct a "Junior Judges" program at Ruston Elementary. The "Junior Judges" program provides a video and teaching curriculum consisting of seven real-life scenarios for fourth graders to judge what options they have in tough situations and encourage them to make smart choices. The topics include cheating, destroying property, bullying, teasing, stealing, drugs and alcohol, and gangs and weapons.

DVD to help children who stutter available at parish library

Parents eagerly anticipate the moment when their child first begins to talk. But for some parents, it is a time of anxiety because their child struggles to get words out. As many as five percent of preschool children nationwide have repetitions and prolongations of sounds severe enough to be of concern to their parents.
The DVD in English and Spanish, “Stuttering and Your Child: Help for Parents,” helps parents detect stuttering and take action toward helping their child and is available at the Lincoln Parish Library.
