Melanie Goff and Amanda Krueger have put the wraps on their collegiate careers in the right way.
Two of the most valuable senior members of Louisiana Tech University’s softball program were announced Saturday as first-unit members of the 2013 All-Louisiana squad chosen by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

Teammate Wilmore selected to second golf postseason squad

Louisiana Tech University’s golf team had good news on two accounts on Saturday when the annual All-Louisiana squad was announced by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
The Bulldogs placed two of their players on the team and both will ibe returning for the 2014 season.
Earning first team honors was Victor Lange, only a freshman, and chosen to the second team was junior Travis Wilmore.

Whoever concocted the first All-State team in history probably had somebody worthy omitted.
No matter what the sport or how good the honored players are, there is invariably going to be somebody left off who should have been there.
The case study for the recently announced Class 5A Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-State baseball team is David Michael Burkhalter.

Ogunyemi heads to Missouri college

Simsboro High School’s Daniel Ogunyemi (center), a two-time Class B Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-State basketball selection, recently signed a full NCAA national letter-of-intent with Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo. The 6-5 forward was a key player in the Tigers’ march to a berth in the state championship for Class B in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association this year. Witnessing the signing ceremony were Ogunyemi’s father, (left) Olatunde Ogunyemi, and mother, Arnita Ogunyemi.

Amazing how time zips on by, isn’t it? Although it seems it happened only a couple of years ago, it’s been nearly three decades since I traveled south of Lake Charles to the Lakes of Gum Cove. Tony Palermo, owner of this chain of small but bass-rich lakes on his property, had invited me to fish with him.
Just prior to heading south, Mike Savage of Monroe had introduced me to a hot new bass fishing lure he was manufacturing and gave me some lures to test and sample so I took them with me to Gum Cove.

Frog Giggin’ tourney set for Columbia

COLUMBIA — The Frog Giggin’ Tournament Series by Riverbank Products is coming to Columbia for the second year in a row. The tournament will take place in downtown Columbia on June 14-15 near the Watermark Saloon.
Riverbank Products created the events as a way to get people outdoors together enjoying nature and having fun. The company makes and sells innovative outdoor products designed for sportsmen, by sportsmen. Frog Giggin can be as competitive as you want to make it or just good friends having a good time.
