Drive to wrap up on Saturday

Leadership Lincoln was out at Super 1 Foods on Saturday collecting donations for their can drive for Christian Community Action. The group raised more than $600 in cash donations, in addition to numerous food items, during Saturday’s push. They will be out at Super 1 Foods again from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday for final collections as they wrap up their drive.

Belton to run for DA position

John Belton, an assistant district attorney in the 3rd Judicial District for more than 22 years, officially announced that he is a candidate for the open District Attorney seat.
Belton said it would be a privilege and an honor to serve both Lincoln and Union parishes as District Attorney.
“I have been encouraged to run because of my maturity and experience as a prosecutor as well as my business experience in the public and private sectors,” Belton said.

Crawling into the arts

Gallery, stores plan to stay open late for event

Area art lovers are in for a treat on Friday night when the Ruston Spring Gallery Crawl kicks off from 6-9 p.m. in downtown Ruston.
Bonnie Ferguson, owner of Pastry Moon and event organizer, said while this isn’t the first time there’s been an art crawl downtown, it has been quite awhile since the last one. She said all of the stops are conveniently located on or near West Alabama Avenue, North Trenton and North Vienna streets.

Alan Robertson to join Si during LMCH event

Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home is excited to announce Alan Robertson will join his uncle Si Robertson in the upcoming fundraising event in Ruston on May 9.
All proceeds of the event will benefit the Children’s Home. Alan Robertson and Si Robertson will share the stage as they entertain the crowd with stories of faith, family and their life on television’s Duck Dynasty.

RPD hosts forgery, fraud investigators conference

The Ruston Police Department this week hosted the Louisiana Forgery and Fraud Investigator’s Association annual conference. RPD Capt. Eric Hanna is the 2014 president of the LAFFIA.

Ruston native given LSU athletic award

Louisiana State University College presented its annual “Celebration of Excellence” Spring Awards program on April 1 at The Club on Union Square. University College awarded $64,000 through 55 scholarships, 10 LSU faculty teaching awards and one LSU Advisor of the Year Award
William “Tucker” Smith was awarded the Tiger Athletic Foundation University College Sophomore Award. Smith, a sophomore majoring in Business Administration with a 4.0 GPA, joins an elite group of scholarship recipients. Smith, son of William and Kelly Smith, is a graduate of Cedar Creek School in Ruston.
