Library offers events for children, adults

There are still a few long, hot summer days left before the new school year kicks off. And during that time Louisiana weather could turn up the heat or stay fairly mild.
Area residents should be prepared for both situations, so if you find yourself trying to beat the heat — why not check out the Lincoln Parish Library.
This summer library staff have stepped up their game and offered a variety of programs to suit all ages.

in
Stockton, Gary NEW.jpg

I get a lot of calls this time of the year about poorly growing lawns. Many times when I take a look at the situation it appears that improper mowing may be the issue.

Appreciate the 'boring' life

in
Degrie, Elizabeth (New).jpg

I have friends in all sorts of exciting places — England, Scotland, Africa, Washington, D.C., New Orleans and more. And, I’m not going to lie, sometimes I am very jealous of the opportunities they have.
So, it was a little bit of a surprise when my friend in Africa, who is doing a tour for the Peace Corps, recently told me that he was jealous of my “grown-up” job.

in
072213 Hobbit Name C.jpg

Area teens showed their love for a literary classic Saturday as they attended a Hobbit party at the Lincoln Parish Library. Some of the young people donned their best hobbit attire while going barefoot in honor of the hairy-footed creatures written about by J.R.R. Tolkien. They learned about a hobbit’s lifestyle, what hobbits eat and what a hobbit’s house looks like. Pictured above is Heather Thorson, a freshman at Ruston High showing her nametag written in Dwarvish Runes.

“Stitch-by-stitch ... making one little dress at a time” was the inspirational theme for more than 50 First Baptist women who used their God given talents to make pillow-case dresses for little girls in remote villages of Nicaragua.
These little dresses, that may be prize possessions of grateful young girls, were packaged and transported recently in 100-pound tubs to their destination in Diriamba, Nicaragua.
