City to tighten financial belt for Fiscal Year 2013-14

A combination of skyrocketing retirement costs and flat sales tax collections has caused the City of Ruston to tighten its financial belt for the coming fiscal year, but officials say the city is in good shape.
“We’re in a place right now where we’re recognizing that we can’t spend every dime we budget,” Alderman Jedd Lewis, chairman of the Board of Aldermen’s Personnel-Finance Committee said.
The Board of Aldermen will discuss Mayor Dan Hollingsworth’s proposed $55.1 million budget today at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall. The aldermen are also the personnel-finance committee.

Grambling State University’s Dunbar Hall will play host to Chicano-artist Richard Lou through Sept. 19, and will conclude with a lecture on that day.
Lou is a professor and chair of the Department of Visual Arts at the University of Memphis, Memphis, Tenn.
“I love being at Grambling State University,” Lou said. “They have treated me like royalty. I have known about Grambling for a long time, they have a great history and a great art department.”
His exhibit “Stories on My Back” was first created in a more modest approach in 2009 than what is on display in Dunbar Hall.

Located off Interstate 20 near Louisiana Tech University, the new restaurant will create an additional 30 to 40 jobs for the area.
The licensees recognized the new business potential the Ruston community has to offer and set out to bring Zaxby’s to the area.
