The power and impact of love

We need to love people with a force that is natural, and by natural I mean like nature, like a waterfall or wind or waves on the ocean. Love is effortless. There is no explanation for a person who loves, save God. To let God’s love flow through you. It is an adventure both big and small, adventures that are intoxicating.
Kay impacted my life because she loved me.
Love in the brain changes nothing. It hugs and prays and cries and sings. Love does things. What a privilege to be loved by a Christian wife!

Pinewood Derby results announced

Any scout is invited to participate in the Louisiana Purchase Council pinewood derby race to be held in April. The Louisiana Purchase Council serves 20 parishes in Northeast and Central Louisiana. Parishes include: Allen, Avoyelles, Caldwell, Catahoula, Concordia, East Carroll, Franklin, Grant, Jackson, LaSalle, Lincoln, Madison, Morehouse, Ouachita, Rapides, Richland, Tensas, Union, West Carroll and Winn.

The Village of Simsboro met in regular session Monday, February 03, 2014 at 6:15 P.M. Council members present were: Alderman Tiffany Cole , Alderman Doug Durrett and Alderman Pam Durrett . Also present: Jessica Darden, Ruston Daily Leader, Andre Kittles, Allen Perry, and Jeri Hendricks.
Mayor Willie Hendricks called the meeting to order. Alderman Pam Durrett voiced the prayer and Mayor Hendricks led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Grambling State University President Frank G. Pogue was eating French fries and a corn dog as he chatted with students Monday.
Celebrating Presidents Day with an interactive lunch in McCall Dining Hall, Pogue, members of the administration, faculty and staff enjoyed lunch, eating what students eat, as they asked GSU students to open up about what concerns and ideas they have.
“This really works,” said Pogue during a break between bites. “We put a lot of these suggestions into action.”

A changing downtown

Ruston’s Planning and Zoning Commission is sending six more proposed changes in the city’s zoning code to the board of aldermen for adoption.
Chief among the revisions approved by the commission Monday night is the enlargement of a new zoning category that’s a buffer between the downtown area and adjoining residential neighborhoods.
But the endorsement of the expanded core edge designation came over objections from the attorney for one homeowner who lives across the street from part of the proposed new zone.

Tech chorus to perform tonight

The Louisiana Tech University choirs will perform the winter quarter concert today.
The event, “The Poet and the Interpreter” will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Howard Auditorium.
“I hope that the community will come watch our students conduct the Concert Choir, hear the musical settings of Robert Frost’s poetry and the audience gets to participate in our closing number, ‘When the Saints Go Marching In,’” said John Petzet, director of choral activities. “It’s going to be a blast.”

Prep girls set for playoffs

Simsboro High School and New Living Word School will both be at home for round one as the Louisiana High School Athletic Association girls basketball playoff brackets were released Monday.
Ruston, Cedar Creek and Choudrant also earned berths but will begin their playoff runs on the road.
Simsboro (26-9, 6-0 in District 2-B), the No. 7 seed in Class B, will play host to 26th-seeded Hicks (8-17) at 6 p.m. Thursday at SHS.
