Findley joins Bulldogs

Manning: bright future with Cedar Creek tennis

Maggie Manning had her outstanding 2013 season end on Tuesday afternoon.
But it won’t be the last time anyone hears about the freshman tennis player at Cedar Creek High.
One of North Louisiana’s top performers this spring — regardless of the classification — lost 6-2, 6-1 in the No 1 singles for Class 1A at the annual Louisiana High School Athletic Association state tournament held on the campus of the University of Louisiana-Monroe.
The loss came against highly-regarded Kennan Johnson, a junior from Baton Rouge Ascension Christian.

GSU loses

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Grambling State University dropped to a 16-27 baseball record with a 6-2 loss to Texas A&M on Tuesday.
Brock Baker went five innings as the Tigers’ starter and fell to a 2-5 record. He was the first of four Grambling pitchers.
Catcher Jose Longoria (single, RBI), first baseman Brandon Kiser (single, RBI), second baseman Elias Todman (double) and right fielder Korey Hall (two singles) were the offensive leaders for the G-Men.
Pending weather conditions, GSU is scheduled to host Alcorn State University at 6 p.m. tonight.

Tech golfers No. 9 at WAC tournament

HENDERSON, Nev. — Three Bulldogs shot a 5-over-par 77 and Louisiana Tech moved into ninth place, as the second round concluded at the 2013 Western Athletic Conference Golf Championship at the Rio Secco Golf Club on Tuesday afternoon.
Tech finished the second round in ninth place with a 305-310-615 and entering today’s final round.
Victor Lange joined Sam Forgan and Ben Robinson in shooting a 5-over-par 77 and leading Tech on the day.

White: Perfect mark for RHS tennis

With its top boys’ singles player still unbeaten, Ruston High School will begin postseason tennis competition with the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 5A tournament today.
Caleb White will lead the way for the Bearcats of Head Coach Lora Higginbotham with a No. 1 singles’ record of 8-0.
Overall, the boys’ team at RHS produced a record of 7-0-1 and qualified three players for the state tournament.
Also earning qualification was the doubles’ team of Matt Oakes and Hayden Smithey.

James Henry Alexander

James Henry Alexander, 88, of Russellville, AR, went home to be with his Lord Monday, April 29, 2013. The son of Frances and Ella Alexander, he was born November 4, 1924 in Ruston, LA. He honorably served in WWII on the USS Princeton Independence Class Aircraft Carrier and U.S.S. Bremerton Heavy Crusier. After returning from the war he married the love of his life for 65 years, Blanche Fetterolf. In 1972 they moved from Ruston, LA to Russellville where he was a farmer.
