Grambling stopped by LSU, 4-0

BATON ROUGE — Ten LSU pitchers combined to hold Grambling to three hits Wednesday night, as No. 2 LSU extended the program’s midweek win streak to 31 games with a 4-0 shutout at Alex Box Stadium.
The host Tigers improved to 35-3, which marks the best 38-game record in program history. Grambling dropped to 14-22 after the loss.
The win improved LSU’s win streak over in-state foes to 24 games. LSU’s last loss to an in-state opponent occurred on April 12, 2011.

Lend a hand to help 4 Paws build a shelter

It costs about $2,000 a month to provide for all the animals currently under 4 Paws Rescue Inc.’s care. Each month, they have approximately 20 donors who help them meet about half that number.
4 Paws has helped many people, and animals, find the friend and new family member for which they were looking.

Stop the rush to inaccuracy

The electronic age has done plenty of good for our way of life in the 21st century.
But not always. Sometimes it does the exact opposite.
That was the case Wednesday as news “broke” that a suspect in the Boston Marathon had been taken into custody.
CNN and the Associated Press reported that a suspect had been arrested, but later had to retract those claims.
The mistake — a big one at that — wasn’t unnoticed by authorities working the case.
“Contrary to widespread reporting, no arrest has been made in connection with the Boston Marathon attack,” the FBI said in a statement.

Bo Duke in Ruston: Famed actor meets Mountain Man

Actor/singer John Schneider, most famous for playing “Bo Duke” on “The Dukes of Hazard” television series, was in the KXKZ radio studio Monday to serve as a guest on The Mountain Man Radio Show. Schneider and Mountain Man were signing T-shirts and pictures and accepting donations for a Farmerville boy suffering from Mitochondrial Disease.

Daily Leader takes home 26 awards

The Ruston Daily Leader continued its tradition of excellence, when the Louisiana-Mississippi Associated Press Managing Editors announced the winners of its annual writing, photography and digital contest.
The Daily Leader took home a total of 26 awards, with nine of those being first places. Daily Leader staff members took home awards in a wide range of areas from editorials and columns to continuing coverage and sports writing.
The awards were presented during the annual awards banquet, which was held at the University of Mississippi this year.
