PUBLIC HEARING

The Ruston Housing Authority will conduct a Public Hearing to present, and to take comments on the following programs administered by the Housing Authority: Operating Budget; Capital Fund Program; the Agency Plan and Environmental Review. The hearing will be conducted to comply with the Quality Housing and Work Responsibility Act of 1998. Copies of each program are available for review at the Housing Authority's Office located at 615 N. Farmerville Street, Ruston, Louisiana. The Housing Authority's hours of operation are 8:00a.m. to 5:00p.m.

Grambling parade set

in

The Annual Grambling Christmas Parade is Saturday. The parade is scheduled to line up at 10 a.m. at New Rocky Valley Baptist Church, 2155 Martin Luther King Ave. and will begin promptly at 11 a.m. The parade will move East on Martin Luther King Avenue; take a right turn on Main Street at the Christian Center; move through the business area and Grambling State University; take a left at the Catholic Center; and end at the Grambling Fire Station, 562 Stadium Dr. Santa will pass out treats to children and all parade goers will be treated with a Christmas Cheer bag of fruit and candy.

Messages for Santa

Ruston Parks and Recreation has again secured a line directly from the North Pole to Ruston. Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and their elves will be recording messages for young callers at 255-5414. The recordings from Santa’s workshop will be updated every few days in mid-December and then daily as Christmas draws closer. The phone lines will be open from Friday through Dec. 25. It’s a free call so call as often as you would like. For more information about this special event, contact the RPAR office at 255-5800 or RPAR@Ruston.org.

Davis honored with lifetime achievement award

On the fake turf in Louisiana Tech’s otherwise empty Joe Aillet Stadium, his wheelchair toed the goalline on this mid-morning Monday. O.K. “Buddy” Davis, recipient of the 2016 Football Writers Association of America Lifetime Achievement Award, was about to illustrate yet again his determination and spirit.
He cocked his head toward a friend and said, “Time me.”

Biochemist to speak as part of lecture series

Karen Kashmanian Oates, biochemist and dean of arts and sciences at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, will visit Louisiana Tech University on December 12 as a featured speaker of the New Frontiers in Biomedical Research lecture series.
Oates’ presentation titled, “The Obligation of Knowledge,” will take place at 3:30 p.m. in University Hall on the Tech campus. The event is free and open to the public.
