Lady Techster Invitational to start

in

For the second time in three weekends, the Louisiana Tech Lady Techster softball team will host a home tournament as head coach Mark Montgomery and Co. welcome McNeese State, Sam Houston State, Northern Iowa and Grambling State for a three-day, 10-game event starting Friday at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.
Admission for the tournament is $20 for all-tournament pass for adults ($10 for youth 17-years-and-under) and $10 for a single day pass ($5 for youth 17-years-old and under).

Boys prep playoffs begin tonight

in

Ruston High School is the No. 8 seed in Class 5A and will begin postseason play at home as the Bearcats play host to No. 25 Dutchtown at 7 p.m. today in the RHS Boys Gym.
Tickets for that game will cost $7.
Cedar Creek earned the No. 15 seed in Div. IV and for the first time in nearly 30 years will begin the playoffs at home as the Cougars play host to No. 18 Catholic-Point Coupee at 6 p.m. today.
Lincoln Preparatory School is the No. 2 seed in Class 1A and will host 31st-seed Montgomery at 6 p.m.today.
In Class B, both Simsboro and Choudrant will start with home games.

Lincoln Prep, Creek girls eliminated

ARCADIA — Lincoln Preparatory School, the ninth-seed in Class 1A, pushed defending state champion and top-seeded Arcadia to the brink of elimination Thursday night before the Lady Hornets escaped with a 51-49 win to move on to the semifinals of the state tournament next week in Hammond.
Jesse Anderson led the Lady Panthers with13 points and five rebounds while Jade Anderson added 10 points, six rebounds and five steals.
Lincoln Prep also received nine points and six steals from Tia Ford and eight points from Alexis Perkins.

Defense stymies Mean Green

Alexus Malone scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Louisiana Tech held North Texas to only 25 percent shooting in the second half as the Lady Techsters defeated the Mean Green 65-49 Thursday night at the Thomas Assembly Center.
Tech (16-11, 11-5 Conference USA) won its sixth straight game, the longest winning streak since the 2010-11 Lady Techsters won 14 straight on their way to the NCAA Tournament. The victory also snapped a five-game winning streak for North Texas (11-15, 8-7 C-USA).

Dunkin’ Dogs down Mean Green, 85-67

DENTON, Texas — After suffering losses each of the last two seasons to North Texas at the Super Pit, Louisiana Tech was able to break the curse on Thursday night as the Bulldogs downed the Mean Green by a score of 85-67.
With the win, Tech (21-8, 13-3 Conference USA) extended its season-best winning streak to seven while also securing a first round bye in the C-USA Tournament for a fourth straight year.

MRS. BESS DEAS COLE

Graveside services for Mrs. Bess Deas Cole, age 80, of Homer, LA will be held Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Simsboro City Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston, LA. Rev. R. B. Moore will officiate. Bess Cole was born on October 29, 1936 and passed away following a brief illness on February 22, 2017 at Willow Ridge Nursing Home in Arcadia, LA. She was a graduate of Arcadia High School and attended LA Tech. Bess worked in the insurance industry before retiring and living on Lake Claiborne. Mrs.

Graveside services for Mr. Joel L “Dick” Ambrose, age 89 of Ruston, are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Friday, February 24, 2017 at Douglas Cemetery in Choudrant with Rev. Roger Johnson officiating under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston. Mr. Ambrose was born July 3, 1927 to Conrad M Ambrose and Euna Holstead Ambrose in Choudrant, LA. He passed away February 21, 2017 at his home in Ruston, LA. Mr. Ambrose was a barber in Ruston for 66 years, from 1948-2014. He loved spending time with his coffee bunch every morning. He also served his country in the U.S.
