Annual financial fair benefits local youth

More than 560 Lincoln Parish high school sophomores were introduced to real-world finances this week as United Way of Northeast Louisiana hosted their annual Dollars and $ense Reality Fair at the Ruston Civic Center.
The fair is a financial education simulation during which students actively learn how to make better financial decisions and gain knowledge of budgeting, saving and spending.
Beginning on Wednesday, the Ruston Civic Center was filled with students from Lincoln Parish schools who were ready to receive their simulated jobs for the day and begin their “new” lives.

No. 7 LSU tops Tech 5-0 on softball field

BATON ROUGE – LSU scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning and Tiger ace Carly Hoover threw a complete-game no-hitter as the No.7-ranked Tigers defeated Louisiana Tech 5-0 at Tiger Park Wednesday night.
Tech (5-1) fell victim to some defensive miscues in the bottom of the second inning that ultimately cost the Lady Techsters four runs, giving Hoover and the Tigers more than enough breathing room the rest of the night.

Techsters to begin Florida road swing tonight vs. Owls

BOCA RATON, Florida — Louisiana Tech will put its three-game winning streak on the line when the Lady Techsters travel to FAU Arena to face Florida Atlantic at 6 p.m. today.
The game can be heard on the LA Tech Sports Network on ESPN 97.7 FM and KTKC 92.9 FM with the pregame show set for 5:30 p.m. Fans can hear a free audio broadcast online at espn977.com or by uploading the Red Peach Media or Louisiana Tech X mobile apps. Surging Dunkin’ Dogs to host FAU

Louisiana Tech looks to extend its four-game winning streak and keep its sights set on a first round bye in the league tournament when they face off against Florida Atlantic at 6:30 p.m. today inside the Thomas Assembly Center on Karl Malone Court.
Tech (18-8, 10-3 Conference USA) is currently in second place in the conference standings, two games back of first and two games in front of third, with five remaining league games to go. Like in previous years, the top four seeds get a bye into the quarterfinals.

Prep girls set to start playoffs

All six Lincoln Parish girls high school basketball teams will begin playoff runs this week in the expanded Louisiana High School Athletics Association postseason brackets were released on Monday.
This year’s playoff will include five more divisions to award state championships as select and non-select championships are awarded.
Ruston is the No. 14 seed in Class 5A and will be at home in the first round against No. 19 New Iberia at 6 p.m. on today.
