G-Men set for Celebration Bowl battle

GRAMBLING — It’s been since the early 2000s that Grambling State University has won consecutive National Black Football Championships.
But the G-Men will get the chance to do it again this weekend as they take on North Carolina A&T in the Celebration Bowl at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. and the game will be televised on ABC.

RHS to host Simsboro tonight

in

Two hot Lincoln Parish prep basketball teams collide as Ruston High School plays host to Simsboro High School at 7 p.m. tonight.
Tickets for the game will be $5.
Ruston enters the game at 3-5 but has won three straight after defeating Union Parish High School 51-48 on Tuesday.
Simsboro enters the game at 17-2, including a 61-59 win at Neville on Nov. 30.

Bulldogs ready to face Longhorns

Louisiana Tech looks to bounce back onto a winning track at 1 p.m. Saturday as the Dunkin’ Dogs play at Texas. Senior guard Jacobi Boykins (pictured above) and the Bulldogs stand at 7-3 on the season while the Longhorns enter the contest at 6-3.

Tech soccer duo earns honors

A little more than a month after earning academic honors from Conference USA, the Louisiana Tech senior duo of Nomvula Kgoale and Haley Laque received another academic award as they were both selected to the 2017 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women’s Scholar All-South Region Team.
Tech was one of five C-USA programs to have players chosen to an all-region team and one of only two to have multiple players selected. Kgoale and Laque made up two of the three in-state players as well.

GSU hoops teams both hitting road

in

Grambling State’s basketball team both hit the road today to play games this weekend.
The G-Men (3-7) will be looking to snap a two-game skid at GSU plays at Southeastern Louisiana at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hammond.
SLU stands at 5-4 on the season.
Ivy Smith Jr. leads Grambling with 14.9 points per game while the G-Men have two other players averaging double figures in scoring. Dionte Jones is averaging 12.4 points along with 5.3 rebounds per contest while Axel Mpoyo is adding 12.3 points and a team-best 6.2 boards per game.
