Hawaii missile false alarm sparks conversation

“This is not a drill.”
Those famous words were sent during the Japanese attack on Hawaii’s Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.
Unfortunately, these words were recently erroneously repeated at Pearl Harbor, and to 1.5 million people.
I had not planned to write about Pearl Harbor today. I would have done so later. But because of last Saturday mistake, with fear quite real, the thoughts are timely. There was “a drill” lasting more than 30 minutes; petrified citizens thought they were being attacked.
Last week my family, as wedding guests and tourists, had the opportunity to visit Hawaii.

Miss Grambling State University 2017-18 Jimmitriv “Jimmi” Roberson said it best, “Being an American means to be free.”
This simple, six-word sentence speaks volumes of what it means to be in American in the 21st century.

Martin Wade Toms

Mr. Martin Wade Toms, age 60 of Bienville, passed away suddenly at his residence on January 16, 2018. Mr. Toms was a forester for Weyehaeuser Forest Products. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of The Bridge Community Church in Ruston, La.

The Village of Simsboro met in regular session on Monday January 8th, 2018 at 6:00 PM.
Council members present were Alderman Doug Durrett, Alderman Jerry Davis and Alderman Joe Reed.
Mayor Foster opened the meeting with prayer and Alderman Doug Durrett led the Pledge of Allegiance.

The LDEQ, Office of Environmental Services, is accepting written comments on a draft Louisiana Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (LPDES) permit prepared for Industrial Insulation Group, LLC, 276 Fiberboard Road Grambling, LA 71245. The facility is located at 276 Fiberboard Road in Grambling, Lincoln Parish. Upon the effective date of the final permit, the LPDES permit shall replace the previously issued LPDES permit.
