Club News: Pierian Club

The March Pierian meeting was held at Sarah Williams’ lovely home.
Dee Colvin and Beverly Johnson were her co-hostesses. The members walked in to hear Vivian McCain calling out —“George, George, where are you? Come out right now!” She was slapping a wooden spoon in her hand, so she really meant business. Finally “George” (Kathey Roane) dressed in his play clothes, came out and began telling the wonderful story of George Rodrigue and the Blue Dog paintings.

Tech Division of Nursing earns state award for best program

in

Louisiana Tech University’s Division of Nursing has been tabbed as the state’s top undergraduate degree program.
The award was presented during the 16th Annual Nightingale Awards Gala honoring excellence in nursing, held earlier this month at the at L’Auberge Hotel in Baton Rouge.
Sponsored by the Louisiana Nurses Foundation and Louisiana State Nurses Association, the gala saw Louisiana Tech’s Division of Nursing honored as the Nursing School of the Year for Undergraduate Degree Programs.

Backus True Value to close its doors

After nearly 40 of service to the community, Backus True Value is closing its doors.
Owner Jody Backus said that while the company has had the pleasure of serving Lincoln Parish in the hardware, sporting goods, rental and photo business, it is time for him to retire.
“The time has now come to start the next adventure of my life. I have been so blessed to live and raise my three boys in one of the best places on Earth,” Backus said. “I’m ready (to retire.) It’s going to be good.”

Dubach woman faces manslaughter charges

A Dubach woman is in custody today after she allegedly killed her boyfriend late Sunday night.
Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Malaysia Carter, 19, and charged her with manslaughter in the stabbing death of Melvin Peterson, 47.

GSU Orchesis Dance Company prepares for show

Grambling State University’s Orchesis Dance Company is preparing for its 10th year anniversary performance of the annual Dance His High Praise show in Shreveport.
The Saturday event will be held at the Strand Theatre at 7 p.m.
This year’s performance honors E. Edward Jones Sr., a civil rights leader and pastor of Shreveport’s Galilee Missionary Baptist Church for 57 years.
