The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Nothing closer to truth could be said about Louisiana’s state budget.
Different legislators. Different governors. Same old song and dance.
The damage done to our state budget has been clear to many Louisiana residents for years now. And more and more, others are taking notice, too.

GSU students awarded NAACP scholarships

GRAMBLING — Jessica Clinton and Keely Heggar were ecstatic on stage as they accepted scholarship awards.
Clinton and Heggar, Grambling State University students, each received $500 from the NAACP Lincoln Parish Chapter. They were among six area college students receiving scholarships during a mid-January (Jan. 14) event at the Ruston Civic Center.
Neither Clinton nor Heggar took the scholarships for granted, each saying the awards helped teach them the importance of setting goals.

Students of the month announced

The Ruston Rotary Club proudly announces the recipients of the March Student of the Month Awards. Each student honoree spoke to the club members about their accomplishments at the March 8 luncheon and was then presented an award of achievement. Each awardee has maintained a minimum GPA of 3.5 and been active in extra-curricular activities and leadership roles on their respective school campus.

Climmie Wyatt, 87 died March 18, 2017. Visitation will be Friday, March 24 at 2:00 pm at King's Funeral Home, Ruston, LA. Services are Saturday, March 25 at 11:00 am at St. Clair Baptist Church, Chatham, LA. Burial will follow at St. Clair Cemetery, Chatham, LA. Arrangements are under the direction of King's FH, Ruston, LA.

Mary Caldwell Boden-Harris, 65 died March 19, 2017. Wake will be Friday, March 24, at 6:00 pm at King's Funeral Home, Ruston, LA. Services are Saturday, March 25 at 10:00 am at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Grambling, LA. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Downsville, LA. DR. B.H. GILLEY

Dr. B. H. Gilley, 90, passed away March 21, 2017, at Willis-Knighton Pierremont Hospital after a brief illness. A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church, Shreveport, LA with Rev. Dr. Chris Currie officiating. Billy Hawkins Gilley was born on February 26, 1927, in Manchester, Tennessee to Odilene and Cecil Gilley. After graduating from Manchester High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Much of his tour of duty was in the Philippines. On returning home, he began his college education.
