Lewis Benjamin “Buster” Barnette

Lewis Benjamin “Buster” Barnette, 73, of Dubach, passed away on April 6, 2014, due to a lengthy illness. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Dubach. Bro. Todd Free will be officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4-6 PM at Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow the funeral at Fellowship Cemetery in Dubach.

Richard E. Paige, II

A memorial service for Richard E. Paige, II, will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at the New Hope Cemetery in Choudrant, Louisiana.  Rev. Oda W. “Tuck” Roberts will officiate. Richard was the son of Rev. Richard E. “Dick” and Mary Lee Paige.  He was born on November 28, 1958, and he died in Monroe, Louisiana, after a lengthy battle with cancer. 

Richard is survived by his sister, Lauren Paige Law and husband, Dan, of Salamanca, New York; his brother, David Paige and wife, Kim, of Kennesaw, Georgia, and a large extended family.

Funeral services for Eddie Jarmon, 60 of Choudrant will be 2:00 PM Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral home in Ruston with Rev. Brad Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Jarmon passed away suddenly April 3, 2014 in Monroe.

Eddie was an estimator at Owens Construction in West Monroe. An avid deer hunter, he loved NASCAR, spending time outdoors with his children and riding four wheelers.

REGULAR MEETING OF TOWN COUNCIL The Town Council of Dubach, Louisiana met in Regular Session Monday, March 17, 2014 at 6:30 pm at the Town Hall.
Present were Honorable Bob Jensen, Mayor and Council members Vallie Carrico, Hattie Graham, Robert Colvin, Donna Lewis, and Jessica Darden with the Ruston Daily Leader.
Absent: Davie Powell and Justina Hensley
Public Comments: NONE
Citizens attended: Randy Roberson.
The Meeting opened with Pledge of Allegiance and Invocation by Mayor Jensen.

TOP: A touch football mini-tournament wrapped up the Fred Dean Hall of Fame Pro Day activities Saturday at the Louisiana Tech practice field. Around 60 area youth attended the Pro Day to learn the basics of the game of football from Dean and his staff of instructors. Middle Left: Dean, right, oversaw blocking drills for linemen. Techsters split; Lady Tigers swept

DENTON, Texas — Freshman Pauline Tufi pitched a complete-game three-hitter and Louisiana Tech capitalized on a late-inning error as the Lady Techsters defeated North Texas 3-2 in the second game of a Conference USA doubleheader at Lovelace Stadium Saturday.
North Texas used a one-hitter by Ashley Kirk to lead the Mean Green to a 3-1 victory in game one of the day.
The two teams are scheduled to play the third and final game of the series at 1 p.m. today, weather permitting.

Fred Dean helped the NFL start keeping meticulous statistics on quarterback sacks.
During an award-filled career that spanned 10 years, the former Ruston High School and Louisiana Tech University legend totaled 95 sacks.
Actually, Dean unofficially reached triple digits in chasing down QB’s while dividing his career between the San Diego Chargers and San Francisco 49ers.
But because the NFL had not yet added sack totals to their game statistical package during his era, no telling how many field generals felt his wrath; suffice it to say that it was more than 95.
