September 10 meeting

THE LINCOLN Parish Police Jury met in regular session on Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at 7:00 p.m., at its regular meeting place in the Courthouse, Ruston, Louisiana. Present were: Hazel Hunter, District Two; Bobby Bennett, District Three; Randy Roberson, District Four; David Hammons, District Five; Walter Pullen, District Six; Jody Backus; District Seven; Skip Russell, District Eight; Joe Henderson, District Nine; Nancy Wilson, District Ten; Sharyon Mayfield, District Eleven and Ronny Walker, District Twelve.
Absent: Theresa Wyatt, District One

A speedy chase

Bienville Parish suspect caught in Lincoln

At 11:31 a.m. Tuesday, the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested one man — and his dog — after a brief high-speed chase, which ended at the Spirit Mart on Louisiana Highway 33.

McClain identified as victim of fire

Jettie McClain, 64, of Ruston, has been identified as the victim of an early morning residential structure fire on Tuesday on Edgewood Street.
Just after midnight Monday, Ruston firefighters were dispatched to a single story residential structure fire at Edgewood Street. When officials arrived they found the single-family, wood-frame, house fully involved in flames. A resident of the home, 45-year-old Phillip McClain told first responders that his brother was trapped within the burning structure.

LPPJ denies DA fund increase request

Facing tough financial choices, the Lincoln Parish Police Jury passed a motion at last week’s monthly meeting to maintain the same budget award requests for 2014 as were given in 2013.
Several agencies that receive funds from the LPPJ requested increases for 2014, including a 70.73 percent increase requested by the Lincoln Parish District Attorney’s Office. The Lincoln Parish DA’s Office requested $289,660, a $120,000 increase over the $169,660 the agency received last year.

Sixth graders ‘think pink’ with walk

I.A. Lewis hosts annual breast cancer awareness fundraiser

At 2 p.m. Friday students, teachers and parents at I.A. Lewis were seeing pink as they completed their breast cancer awareness walk, which raised $525.
Christy Hipp, a parent at I.A. Lewis, said her daughter Grayson thought the walk would be fun for them to do together.
“This is something fun to do, but they are passionate about awareness as well,” Hipp said.
“I think it is great that the school is supporting such a worthy cause.”
Lois Davis, a parent as well, said she feels it is good that the children see that there are bigger things out there.
