Reflecting on an awful lot to be thankful for

in
Rainwater, MarkWEB.jpg

There are few certainties in life.
The sun rises each morning in the east and sets each evening in the west.
The check out line you get in at the store will immediately become the slowest.
Someone who doesn’t share your top-flight driving skills will be directly in front of you on a two-lane road for an extended period of time.
Every year at Thanksgiving, inky wretches such as me will write what we’re thankful for.
Let’s get started.
I’m thankful that I’m an alcoholic and drug addict.
Say what? I’ll explain.

Be thoughtful this holiday season — recycle

in
Hawley, Heather.jpg

In Ruston, city officials are urging citizens to be more thoughtful about how they get rid of unwanted goods.
In other words — recycle.
Recently, members of the Louisiana Tech University’s chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers hosted a clean-up in conjunction with America Recycles Day.
During the event, football fans and other volunteers had the opportunity to join in a postgame sweep of Joe Aillet Stadium.
I thank them for their effort in helping to both keep Louisiana Tech clean, but also the further effort of recycling.

Geaux vote on Saturday

Let’s face it, Saturday’s runoff election for Louisiana’s treasure isn’t the most exciting contest we’ve ever seen, at least not here in North Louisiana.
Fact is, there’s been very little talk about the race all, and neither of the runoff candidates — Democrat Derrick Edwards, of New Orleans, or Republican John Schoder of Covington — has visited Lincoln Parish. Across the state, the reaction seems to be a lackluster shrug of the shoulders.
Turnout for the primary election was a dismal 14 percent statewide and an even worse 10 percent here at home.

Dunkin’ Dogs to host Montana State in Saturday Night Tilt

in

Louisiana Tech will conclude its three-game home stand to open the regular season on Saturday night when they face off against Montana State at 7 p.m. inside the Thomas Assembly Center on Karl Malone Court.
Tech (2-0) is riding a nine-game home winning streak that stayed intact after an overtime victory versus SEMO. Just like that game, the matchup with MSU (2-1) is part of the Cancun Challenge that both teams will be taking part in next week in separate brackets in Cancun, Mexico.

Lady Techsters outlast Memphis

in

Although Louisiana Tech head coach Brooke Stoehr feels she has a team that will be very good offensively this season, it has been the Lady Techsters defense that has been winning games early in the year.
Thursday night at the Thomas Assembly Center was no different as Tech (3-0) held the undermanned Tigers (1-2) to only 28 percent shooting in a 65-40 victory before 1,851 fans. With the victory, LA Tech recorded its first 3-0 start since the 2009-10 season.

Cougars ready to take on familiar foe

in
Boatright, T. Scott 14.jpg

Coaching a playoff football game is never easy.
But coaching against a mentor is even harder.
That’s the task facing Cedar Creek’s Ben Haddox tonight as his second-seeded Cedar Creek Cougars hit the road for a second-round Div. IV playoff game at St. Mary’s.
St. Mary’s is coached by Corwyn Aldredge, who served as head coach at Cedar Creek from 2002-09.
Aldredge is a Natchitoches native and a 1981 graduate of St. Mary’s. While at St. Mary’s he earned All State Football, All State Basketball, State and National Javelin Champion, All-American Football and All-American Track honors.
