Juneteenth changes make a better experience

The city of Grambling’s mission for its annual Juneteenth Heritage Festival is to build community relationships while creating an environment that celebrates culture, educate festival attendees and provide entertainment for all demographics.
While Grambling’s Juneteenth Fest hits the mark every year when it comes to achieving its goals, this year’s festival felt extra community-oriented simply because of a few minor changes.

Peach Fest music to include Chee-Weez, Uncle Kracker

One of the favorite parts of Ruston’s annual big event for many people are the sweet sounds of the Louisiana Peach Festival concerts.
This year is no exception, with a returning fan favorite and a Fest newcomer serving as headliners for this year’s shows.
For a second straight year, The Chee-Weez, a five-piece tribute/show band from New Orleans will headline Friday’s event, taking the stage at 10 p.m. at Railroad Park.

Commission nixes open space plan

Ruston’s Planning and Zoning Commission on Monday turned down a developer’s request to grant his project conditional use approval under the residential permanent open space option in the city’s zoning code.
Mark Counts wanted to exercise the option in order to be able to subdivide property he owns at 1302 East Georgia Avenue. Counts Holding LLC’s request was the first one to be made under the open space provision. Counts wanted to build an additional house on some of the acreage.

Beaver dam: No. 1 OSU shuts down LSU, 13-1

OMAHA, Neb. — Oregon State first baseman KJ Harrison launched a grand slam Monday night, and right-hander Bryce Fehmel limited LSU to one run through eight innings as the Beavers posted a 13-1 College World Series win over the Tigers at TD Ameritrade Park.
Oregon State, which won its 23rd straight game, improved to 56-4 on the year. The Beavers will play at 2 p.m. Friday against the winner of Wednesday’s 6 p.m. matchup between LSU and Florida State.
The loser of Wednesday’s LSU-Florida State game will be eliminated from the CWS.

ExxonMobil makes $230,000 donation to Louisiana Tech

ExxonMobil has donated more than $230,000 to the Louisiana Tech University Foundation as part of ExxonMobil’s Educational Matching Gift Program.
ExxonMobil’s Troy O’Laughlin, a 1999 chemical engineering alumnus from Louisiana Tech’s College of Engineering and Science alumnus, presented the check to Louisiana Tech President Les Guice, College of Engineering and Science Dean Hisham Hegab and College of Education Dean Don Schillinger.
The check represents corporate funds from ExxonMobil matching gifts made to Louisiana Tech by ExxonMobil employees during 2016.

How to prepare to give an interview

Last week I wrote about preparing yourself for an interview.
It is now time to address the responsibilities of the interviewer.
Interviewing may seem easy to some people, but you can get yourself and your company into a lot of trouble by asking the wrong questions.
Questions regarding personal matters such as whether or not they are a legal citizen, their age, whether they drink or smoke, whether or not they have children or plan to have children, any question regarding religion are all examples of questions you cannot ask.
