Tech speeds past ULM, NSU at Jim Mize Invitational

Louisiana Tech Track and Field enjoyed a successful start to the 2017 outdoor season as the Bulldogs and Lady Techsters defeated both UL-Monroe and Northwestern State in the annual Jim Mize Invitational Wednesday at the Jim Mize Track & Field Facility in Ruston.
In double-dual scoring, Louisiana Tech’s men defeated Northwestern State with 70 points compared to 49 by the Demons and ULM (71-52), while the Lady Techsters defeated NSU (59-52) and ULM (66-41) in team scoring on Wednesday in Ruston.

Techsters hit road to face SMU in tourney play tonight

DALLAS, Texas — Louisiana Tech opens play in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament when the Lady Techsters travel to Moody Coliseum to face American Athletic Association foe Southern Methodist University at 7 p.m. today.
The contest can be heard on the LA Tech Sports Network on KXKZ 107.5 FM with the pregame show set for 6:30 p.m. Fans can also watch a live video stream by purchasing a subscription to PonyUp.TV on the SMU website at SMUMustangs.com. There is not TV for the game.

GSU women upset Ole Miss in WNIT

OXFORD, Miss. — John’ea Thompson’s driving layup with 11 seconds off a dish from Chantiara Lewis proved to be the difference Thursday night as Grambling State stunned Ole Miss 78-75 in first-round action of the Women’s NIT.
Ole Miss moved the ball downcourt to try for a late tie or the win, but after Ole Miss called a 30-second timeout to set up a final shot, the Rebels’ Erika Sisk turned the ball over with GSU’s Monisha Neal recording the steal.

Attend an event coming to Ruston

While the weather decides what it wants to do, there are plenty of upcoming events for residents of Lincoln Parish to enjoy.
First up is the Lawrence Gibbs and The Little Big Band concert this evening beginning at 7:30 at the Dixie Center for the Arts.
Gibbs said the concert is focused on the music of Dave Pell.
“This music is now being rediscovered after over 50 years of neglect. As part of the program Mr. Gibbs will make comments and reintroduce this excellent jazz from the mid 1950’s to the audience,” according to the NCLAC website.

St. Patrick made impact on the world

Feeling a little bit luckier today? Well, there might be a reason for that.
Today is St. Patrick’s Day, the annual celebration of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland.
According to legend, today marks the late fifth century missionary’s death.
The legend of St. Patrick starts on the isles of Britain where St. Patrick was taken at age 16 to become a slave in Ireland.
St. Patrick escaped at age 20 after having a dream from God that told him to leave Ireland to be reunited with his family in Britain.
But this was not the last of St. Patrick and Ireland.
