LPSO: Lock your cars, remove valuables

Vehicles burglaries back on the rise

Law enforcement agencies are once again urging parish resients to lock their vehicles and remove valuables, in the wake of an increased number of vehicle burglaries this month.
“These burglaries are concentrated in the unincorporated neighborhoods of the parish, primarily occurring on the northern and eastern sides of the parish, with a couple reported to the southern portion of the parish,” Major Chad Alexander, public information officer with the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office, said in a statement released Friday.

A chance to cheer for America

In 1989, Vietnam veterans James Gregory and Bill Evans set out across Middle America on motorcycles. As they journeyed, they stopped to visit radio, television and newspaper reporters about the number of servicemen and women unaccounted for in all wars in which the United States has fought.

From that beginning, Run For The Wall was born. Run For The Wall is an annual cross-country motorcycle trek undertaken to recognize the sacrifices and contributions made by the nation’s veterans, as well as call for an accounting of all prisoners of war and missing in action.

Millions at stake in jail bills

Louisiana has long been known as the world’s “incarceration capital.”
But if proposed legislation passes in upcoming weeks, the number of people behind bars in our state could significantly lessen, saving Louisiana millions of dollars in the process.
That could also save Lincoln Parish money, as the Lincoln Parish Detention Center often has to pay hundreds of dollars per day to house inmates at other facilities throughout the state due to overcrowding.

4-H club sweeps competition

Cedar Creek swept the competition at the area 4-H Achievement Day recently, receiving the recognition of “Outstanding All Around Club.” Other recognition included first place for the club’s scrapbook, and second place in both the T-shirt and banner contests. Winning first place in Exhibition Livestock was Gracie Jones and Daniel Hanna. Club officers receiving “Outstanding” for the parish were Vice President Jack Bell, Secretary Zoey Venters, Reporter Julianne Ensminger and Treasurer Bailey Anne Adams.

Parish students awarded Burger King scholarships

The Lincoln Parish studnts have won scholarships through the Burger King McLamore Foundation.
The Burger King Scholars selected for the 2017 program include:
• MacKenzie Harris, Cedar Creek School
• Jaina Robinson, Cedar Creek School
• Hannah Scheaffer, Ruston High School
The students were selected by the foundation based on their grade point average, extracurricular activities, community service and work experience.

Interment will follow at Williamson Cemetery near Sailes, LA. Visitation will be Friday, May 19 from 5-7 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA. Richard was a lifelong educator with fifty years of experience as a teacher, coach, principal, and mentor to many as evidenced by some of his nicknames: Uncle Punt, Coach, and Peco.
