Choudrant wins state title

In a dramatic, 10-inning contest, the Aggies had the last laugh as senior infielder Jacob Simmons singled to center field to score junior pitcher Jamey Bradshaw to give Choudrant an 8-7 win over Northlake Christian School (22-5) in the finals of the Class B state tournament here Saturday afternoon.
Both teams cruised to semifinal wins Friday, with the Aggies (30-8) beating Simpson 16-2 and the Wolverines beating Glenmora 11-1. Something had to give Saturday.

RPAR eyes millage vote

Every 10 years, RPAR's millage rate must come up for vote with the public. Currently, the rate is 2.65 mills after being rolled back from its original 3 mills.
It is uncertain at this time whether RPAR will push for the original 3 mills or stick with the current 2.65 mills when the vote comes to election, which could occur as soon as April, RPAR Director Wes Barton said.

RHS graduate to receive first Distinguished Alumni Award

Willie Green, president of the RHS Alumni Association and a 1955 RHS graduate, said Holstead, class of '56, was chosen because of his "deep sense of gratitude and his indebtedness to Ruston High, its teachers and coaches."
In 2001, upon Holstead's retirement from Vinson and Elkins law firm, Green said Holstead selected RHS to be the recipient of his "retirement gratuity" to create the Outstanding Achievement Award scholarship for a graduating senior.

Public Forum for tax millages slated for Tuesday

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Police Jury Conference Room on the third floor of the Lincoln Parish Court House.
Louisiana law mandates that government agencies who receive taxes based on millage rates, roll those rates back to reflect the same amount of taxes collected before the reassessment. But after the rollback, agencies can then roll the rates forward back to the same rate from the prior year, or anywhere in between that rate and the roll back rate.
