State needs leadership

You would think the governor would have learned by now that the answer to a problem is not to just throw more money at it — especially if you’re already broke.
Yet calling another special session would be doing exactly that: coughing up more mileage and per diem payments to state senators and representatives when we’re already in the hole financially.
No, the state does not need another special session. What it needs are special leaders — men and women who don’t get their feelings hurt and quit when things don’t go their way.

It’s the thought that counts

I’m in a very sentimental mood — I think the holidays do that to me — and I happen to recall the first Valentine’s Day that Kyle and I spent together.
It was just two years ago. We had been dating for less than a month, and he was still in that “impress the girlfriend” stage. He had bought sparkling grape juice and had decided to make homemade lasagna for me.

Tech, Grambling play at Love Field

That was the case in 2005 when the two teams located only five miles from each battled for nine full innings before the Tigers exited with a dramatic game-ending, grand slam home run-winning blast by third baseman Courtney Jones.
Jones is among the Tigers’ chief returnees for this season and he wouldn’t mind playing the hero’s role again.
Neither would any number of other Tech or Grambling players who will play each other for the first of two times this season, this one at the Love facility starting at 6 p.m.; the G-Men will host the ‘Dogs at the same time on April 11.

Levee consolidation hits snag in Senate

After a Sunday evening session that saw parish after parish amend a bill introduced by Sen. Walter Boasso, R-Baton Rouge, Boasso returned his bill to the calendar instead of calling for a vote. The bill would have brought the state’s levee boards under one head.
Sunday was day six of the Special Legislative Session called by Gov. Kathleen Blanco to deal with issues raised by hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
