Two dead after Wednesday’s accident

Sifford was a member of the American Trucking Association’s 2007-08 America’s Road Team. The group is touted as one of professional truck drivers with more than 1 million accident-free miles who represent the trucking industry and deliver its highway safety message to the public, according to Road Safe America, a nonprofit highway safety organization.
The crash occurred when the 18-wheeler Sifford was driving east on I-20 around the western Ruston city limits struck a slow-moving eastbound 18-wheeler from behind as he changed lanes, according to preliminary Ruston police reports.

Tech moves to recover GTM

The net effect for Tech has been a section of offices with water damage and a temporary move for some faculty. Nine were relocated to the administration building in Wyly Tower, one found a new home in Carson-Taylor Hall and three were moved to other spaces inside GTM, Wallace said.
The last reroofing was in 1991, when the foam roof was stripped from the building and replaced, Wallace said. Since, the university’s warranty on the GTM roof ran out. Now it’s back to removing the roof down to its decking and putting in a brand new one, he said.

RHS goes for fourth victory

The Bearcats got their “payback” win against Shreve on the James turf last weekend with a thorough 41-3 pounding.
Now, can they deliver again Friday night?
If so, it would help continue a super start to the District 1-5A season for the newly No. 10 ranked Bearcats, who will tangle with the Raiders in a 7 p.m. meeting at Shreveport’s Independence Stadium.

Disorder doesn't stop success

During a manic episode, an individual with the disorder might display either an elated, happy mood or an irritable, angry, unpleasant mood, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. The person will likely experience increased physical and mental activity, along with racing thoughts, decreased sleep and a flight of ideas. In severe cases, an individual will show poor judgment — such as impulsively quitting a job — begin to believe they have superhuman skills or see and hear things that are not there.

GSU dorm fire safety is appreciated

A year later, the halls began opening, but a little behind schedule. This fall, another set of the halls opened on campus, this time ahead of schedule.
The problem was, said Grambling Fire Chief Carl McCarter, the new halls’ accessibility to the town’s fire trucks had been a problem since the beginning, even more so with the set that opened this fall. The access areas to get to a fire in certain parts of the complexes were not reinforced.

One dies in fiery crash

The wreck happened in Ruston city limits near Rabb’s Steakhouse when the FedEx truck out of North Carolina struck a Tara Trucking 18-wheeler out of Jonesboro in the right-hand eastbound lane.
“The Tara Trucking truck was moving very slowly, and the FedEx truck struck the rear of the Tara Trucking truck,” Hawkins said.
The reason the Tara Trucking 18-wheeler was moving so slowly was unclear at press time.
When the FedEx truck hit the other 18-wheeler, it burst into flames, Hawkins said.
“It looked like a bomb went off,” he said.
