Connor Blake Strain-Turner

A graveside service for Connor Blake Strain-Turner, infant son of Rebecca Lynn Strain and Kyle Blake Turner, will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Douglas Cemetery near Choudrant.  Services are under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.

Funeral services for Patrick Michael McGowan age 51, of Dubach will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Temple Baptist Church in Ruston. Officiating the service will be Rev. Dale Oden. Interment will follow at Pines Memorial Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.

Pace, Kelley exchange vows

Beneath a bamboo breeze arch adorned with colorful tropical flowers, Allyson Lynn Kelley and David Brian Pace exchanged marriage vows in a beautiful sunset setting at Orange Beach, Ala. on Sept. 17.
Allyson is the daughter of Stephen and Donna Kelley, of Farmerville. Her paternal grandparents are the late John Richard Kelley Sr. and the late Christine Reppond Kelley. Her maternal grandparents are John and Bonnie Wilson, of Tool, Texas, and the late Norma Wilson.

Grambling gears up

Christmas Parade to roll out Dec. 17

The Town of Grambling is getting into the Christmas spirit and is asking residents to join in by participating in the annual Joy Fund Christmas Parade.
At 11 a.m. Dec. 17, Grambling streets will be filled with trucks, cars, vans and floats for the annual parade, that always ends with Santa passing out bags of goodies to all those who attend.
Parade chairperson Nelda Baisy said the parade lineup will begin at 10 a.m. Dec. 17 at the New Rocky Valley Baptist Church, located at 2155 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. in Grambling.

Dubach council adopts ordinance

At the Dubach town hall meeting Nov. 21, councilmen passed a motion to adopt ordinance 327, which would lease the old Louisiana Power and Light Building to Atchafalaya Measurement Inc.
A public hearing on ordinance 327 was held before the meeting for comments from citizens, but there were none.
“Atchafalaya Measurements handles small parts and the new building will be operating as a business and warehouse for the company,” said Ray Polk, mayor of Dubach.

Less roadway, less flooding

The left lane on U.S. 167 South is temporarily closed between Georgia and Carolina avenues for a Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development project where drainage pipe is being installed underneath the ground. Matt Jantz, DOTD project engineer assistant, said after work is complete, there should be no flooding on the street when it rains. Jantz said, weather permitting, work is slated to wrap up in early March. Jantz estimates it will be at least January before both lanes on U.S. 167 reopen. When work is complete, the sidewalk in the area will be replaced.

School of Human Ecology to screen documentary

The School of Human Ecology at Louisiana Tech University will screen “Race to Nowhere,” an award-winning documentary highlighting the unintended consequences of our pressure-cooker culture and education system, as part of their Bruce Everest Lecture Series.
The event will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Lincoln Parish Public Library Events Center.  Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

Everyone feels sad sometimes. If you experience the loss of a friend or family member, it is normal to feel upset or depressed. If you break up with a boy or girlfriend or struggle with other problems, it is common to feel sad.
