Funeral services for Mr. Billy Joe Cook, age 75 of Dubach, will be held at 4:30 PM Sunday, May 8, 2011 at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston. Rev. Blaine O’Neill, O.F.M. will officiate the service.  Burial will follow in Pines Memorial Gardens in Ruston under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston. Mr. Cook was born July 29, 1935 in Lake Providence to Joel Cecil Cook and Pauline Rushing Cook.  He died May 5, 2011 in Monroe.  Mr. Cook was a veteran of the US Army.  He worked as a rural mail carrier for 37 years.  After retirement, he became a farmer.  Mr.

Theodore “Sonny” W. Cuny, Jr.

Theodore “Sonny” W. Cuny, Jr. passed away peacefully from this world on May 4, 2011, at the age of 77 after valiantly battling a terrible disease for many years. His Alzheimer’s Disease, however, never dulled his spark. He was always laughing and dancing, talking to anybody who would listen, forever saluting the American flag, and thoroughly enjoying his life. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Evelyn Blaushild Cuny, his children, Donna of Montgomery, Texas and Mark of Sacramento, California, and their families. His brother, John A.

The Ruston Police Department

The Ruston Police Department plans to petition the Ruston City Court for authority to dispose of unclaimed property recovered by the Ruston Police Department during the years 2003-2010. The owners of any unclaimed property in the possession of the Ruston Police Department should contact Captain Michael Lestage at 501 North Trenton St., Ruston, Louisiana to claim their property prior to its disposal on June 15, 2011.

Ruston to host 4A-3A tournament

If you visited the offices of the Ruston Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau last week, you saw the entire staff buzzing with excitement about hosting the Louisiana High School Athletic Association/State Farm 4A/3A baseball tournament.
The tournament will take place Friday and Saturday at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park on the campus of Louisiana Tech University.

Bulldogs split WAC doubleheader

Louisiana Tech University split a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader against Top 25 ranked Fresno State on Saturday afternoon at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
The Bulldogs (26-24, 8-11) won the first game 8-6 and lost the second contest 7-4.
Tech used three pitches in the 8-6 victory, as righthander Jeb Stefan started and went six and two-thirds innings before giving way to Mike LeBreton and Caleb Dudley in the final inning of the seven-inning contest.

RHS boys place No. 3 in track

BATON ROUGE — Ruston High’s boys placed No. 3 and the girls came in No. 6 at the annual Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 4A track and field meet held at Bernie Moore Stadium on the campus of LSU on Saturday.

Choudrant stops Simsboro

SIMSBORO — So the lower half of the lineup isn’t usually productive in baseball, huh?
Try and tell that to Choudrant High.
The bottom three hitters for the Aggies drove in nine runs to help power the Aggies (30-4) to a 16-3 victory over Simsboro (20-11) in a Class B Louisiana High School Athletic Association quarterfinal round playoff game here Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Choudrant advances into a semifinal game against either Florien or Zwolle at the state tournament to be held at Bringhurst Park in Alexandria on Friday.
