Watching ESPN these days you would think that the National Football League season was well under way. Fans soak up every play, statistics and news story that glides at the bottom of their screens on the ticker tape. The threat of not having an NFL season made us all aware of just how fleeting our new favorite pastime can truly be.
Preseason monotony still plagues hungry fans that want to see the regular season, but for the time being, it will have to appease fan’s appetites.

Forget that the most fans he ever played in front of as a star quarterback in the California high school ranks was an estimated 10,000.
That was then and this is now and Isham is up for the challenge.

GSU vs. Alcorn: A ‘family affair’

GRAMBLING — It will undoubtedly be a family affair wen Grambling State and Alcorn State square off Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Port City Classic in Shreveport.
Freshman quarterback D.J. Williams will make his first start for Grambling under the auspices of his father and head coach Doug Williams, but the family ties go deeper than that.
Alcorn State head coach Melvin Spears is Doug Williams’ first cousin and former offensive coordinator, and that’s been the focus of much pregame talk over the summer, with Doug Williams taking over for his second stint as head coach at Grambling while Spears is in his first year as head coach at Alcorn State, his alma mater.

One is from Louisiana.
That’s Grambling State University.
One is in Misssippi.
That’s Jackson State University.

McGrath, Harvey plan ceremony

Mr. and Mrs. John McGrath of Haughton, Louisiana and Ms. Lisa Cox of Shreveport, Louisiana are pleased to announce the engagement and approaching wedding of their daughter, Jennifer Lynne McGrath, to Travis Lyman Harvey, II, son of Mr. John Lyman Harvey and the late Mrs. Laura Parish Harvey of Flora, Mississippi.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Colonel and Mrs. Larry Gene Conkle of Ruston, Louisiana; and Mrs. Sondra McGrath and the late Mr. John Joseph McGrath of Bossier City, Louisiana.

Schutzman, Best to wed

Lendel and Martha Schutzman are pleased to announce the engagement and approaching wedding of their daughter Kirby Noll Schutzman, of Ruston, to Garrett Allen Best, also of Ruston.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of John B. Kittrell Jr. and Carolyn Kittrell, of Augusta, Ark., and Mabyn T. Schutzman and the late Calvin L. Schutzman, of Baton Rouge.

Kirby is a 2004 alumna of Ruston High School and a 2008 alumna of Louisiana Tech University.

She is employed with Community Trust Bank.

Griswold, Henderson to exchange vows

Matthew Henderson, of Pioneer, and Erin Griswold, of Ruston, are pleased to announce their engagement and approaching wedding.

The bride-elect is the daughter of Barry Griswold and Joanie and Keith Huffman, all of Ruston.

She is the granddaughter of Fran Griswold, of Lubbock, Texas, and the late Kenneth E. Griswold and Ella Juanita “Jo” Griswold, Joy Detrick, of Haughton, and the late John William Barkley.

Erin is a 2004 alumna of Ruston High School and a 2008 alumna of Louisiana Tech University. She is employed at the Pine Hills Advocacy Center.

McGehee, Meznar marry in July ceremony

On July 2 Natalie Walker McGehee and Philip Ross Meznar were united in holy matrimony in a 2 p.m. ceremony at Christ Community Church.

The Rev. Carter Allred Johnson officiated the ceremony.

Natalie is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. David Wayne McGehee, of Ruston. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. L.D. McGehee, of Ruston, the late Mr. L.D. McGehee, the late Mrs.

Harry Everette Burrow and Dr. Harry Everette Burrow, of Ocean Springs, Miss., and the late Theodore Joseph Millette.

Hoffman, Akin exchange vows

Anna Kathryn Hoffman and Jacob Andrew Akin were married in a 2 p.m. ceremony April 9 at Shearer Hills Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas. The wedding was officiated by Dr. J. Dowell Loftis.

Anna is the daughter of Chuck and Sandra Hoffman, of San Antonio. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Estes and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hoffman, both of Ruston.

Jacob is the son of Dan and Michele Akin, of San Antonio. He is the grandson of Catherine Jane Browne and the late Dr. Robert Browne and Francine Akin and the late William Carroll Akin.
