Dell Marie Roton

Funeral services for Mrs. Dell Marie Roton, age 69 of Ruston, will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston. Rev. Billy Ramsey will officiate the service. Cremation will follow under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.

Habitat breaks new ground

Ruston family to receive a place to call home

One Ruston family was jubilant on Saturday as they broke ground and began the journey to owning their very first home.
Building LaQuanta Hargrove and her family a new home is part of the annual habiTech project, which gives Louisiana Tech University architecture students a chance to get out of the classrooms and into the real world. They work with the family and the North Central Louisiana Habitat for Humanity organization to design and build a family a home each year. This is the 20th house built by the local Habitat for Humanity group, and the seventh built in conjunction with HabiTech.

LPSO proposes 2 taxes

Parish residents asked to vote in April special election

Lincoln Parish residents are slated to vote on two tax proposals this spring to aid the Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Mike Stone said he is seeking the public’s support to help keep the community safe and preserve the quality of life in Lincoln Parish by voting “yes” on two tax measures in a special election set for April 21.
The first measure is a renewal of the 7.83 mill property tax currently in effect in Lincoln Parish. This tax presently funds 40 percent of the Sheriff’s Office’s operating budget.

Celebrating diversity

International students share their cultures

On Tuesday night, at the “Multicultural Fair,” put on by the English Language Services students at Louisiana Tech University and held at the Lincoln Parish Library Events Center, the global community shrunk, bringing parish residents and students from nine different countries together.
The decorum set the mood: different nation’s flags lined the walls, foods emitted spicy smells not easily recognized by the senses and the song “We are the World” was on repeat.
All this accompanied people as they jet set from table to table, country-to-country to learn about the world around them from displays the students made.

Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies are searching for Jeremy Jenkins, of 171 Hayhouse Road in Dubach. According to the LPSO, Jenkins has outstanding warrants for domestic battery and failure to pay child support.  Anyone with information on Jenkins’ whereabouts is asked to call or text Ruston-Lincoln Crimestoppers at 255-1111 or go to rustonlincolncrimestoppers.com. Crimestoppers will pay up to $2,000 for tips leading to an arrest. Callers can remain anonymous.

Dancing for a cause

A special two-hour Zumba class held on Saturday at Add Life Fitness, was set to raise money for recently formed foundation Team Seth Hanchey. Hanchey is a 17-year-old Ruston teen who was hit by a car in September while he was riding his bicycle. He received a great deal of brain trauma and funds raised help pay for treatment, as well as to raise awareness for brain trauma. Residents can make donations at Community Trust Bank.

March for Babies goal set at $55K

The 2012 March for Babies is right around the corner, and Lincoln Parish isn’t wasting any time gearing up for the big event.
At the Thursday Team Captain meeting held at Community Trust Bank, residents went over what was raised last year, their goals and ways to achieve them for this year’s event.
The 2012 March for Babies three-mile walk is set for 10 a.m. April 28 at the Maxie Lambright Intramural Center.
