Freiss, Williamson to unite in matrimony

Paul and Debbie Freiss, of New Orleans, are pleased to announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Stephanie Lynn Freiss, of West Monroe, to Jay Wylie Williamson.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Dottie Oser, of New Orleans, the late Jack Oser, Mary Freiss, of Houston, Texas, and the late Gene Freiss. She is a 2009 graduate of Louisiana Tech University and is employed with the Ouachita Parish Public Library.

Mikushkina, Todd to wed in October

Nikolay and Olga Mikushkin, of Syracuse, N.Y., are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Varvara Mikushkina, to Colin Todd, of Ruston.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Klavdiya and Mikhail Mikushkin. She is a 2007 graduate of Henninger High school and a 2011 graduate of Syracuse University. She is currently employed with Ronald Feldman Fine Arts Gallery in New York City.

Tech earns Tier One

Louisiana Tech University has once again achieved a Tier One ranking among “National Universities,” according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2013 Best Colleges list released Wednesday.

Dancing fever

The Louisiana Round Dance Teachers Association will hold its 30th annual Weekend Round Dance Convention at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Ruston on Friday and Saturday.
About 50 couples from all parts of Louisiana will be dancing on Friday night and all day Saturday. The Saturday night dance will include an exhibition by the Dixie Dancers, a local tap dance group. Spectators are welcome to watch any of the dance activities at no charge.

Aldermen vote against tax, for raise

Ruston aldermen voted to not increase taxes for local residents and approved a budget that included a 2 percent raise for employees during the regular City Council meeting on Monday.
Every four years, property is reassessed, and if property values increase, as they did inside the municipal limits of Ruston, aldermen may readjust millages that have previously been approved by voters.

Live Life Local at the Fashion

Clothing brand Eileen Fisher is partnering with specialty stores across the U.S. for its first-ever Live Life Local event on Saturday. The event seeks to promote the “shop-local” movement and support small business owners who helped give the Eileen Fisher brand its start. The event will also introduce customers to leadership programs in their communities. The Fashion of Ruston has signed on to participate.

Simsboro’s kindergarten is off to a great start. We have been learning our new friends’ names and how to follow our classroom and school rules. We have also been working really hard on writing our names and learning to cut and glue neatly.
