Lady Techsters softball team to host North Texas

in

The top two teams in the West Division of Conference USA meet this weekend when Louisiana Tech hosts North Texas in a three-game series at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.
Tech (30-18, 13-5 C-USA) and North Texas (24-24, 11-10 C-USA) play a doubleheader set for 1 p.m. Saturday and a single game set for 1 p.m. Sunday.
It will be Senior Day Weekend as catcher Natalie Moran, infielder Jessica Ball, outfielder Tori Charters and infielder Pauline Tufi will all be honored on the field prior to Sunday’s first pitch.

Cougars roar past St. Martin’s, 10-3

Cedar Creek’s Jace Moss and Aaron Clark led the way with three hits each Thursday as the Cougars roared past St. Martin Episcopal 10-3 in Division IV prep baseball playoff action at Cougars Field.
The second-seeded Cougars totaled 12 hits in the contest, including a pair of home runs, en route to the opening round victory.

New GSU nursing program gets Regents support

BATON ROUGE — Grambling State University’s effort to start a new undergraduate nursing program got a boost Wednesday when the Louisiana Board of Regents endorsed a letter of intent in support of a smaller, focused, more demanding academic curriculum, classroom training and support so students will be successful.
The Board of Regents vote in favor of the letter of intent was unanimous. If the process continues as planned, the first cohort of 30 students can start with the new GSU nursing program in fall 2018.

Business owner given inaugural Excellence Award

There are individuals in the Lincoln Parish Community who go above and beyond to help their fellow residents in their time of need, and the Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce has created an award to honor these individuals — The Excellence Award.
The first recipient of the award was selected recently — the owner of Triple B Diesel, Joshua Daigrepont.
In a comment to the Chamber of Commerce, a woman from Miami, Florida, — Kristi Maxey-Diego — insisted that Daigrepont be recognized for the good deeds he had done for her parents as they traveled through Ruston.

Shooting investigation continues

Ruston police have updated their persons of interest list stemming from a Tuesday night shooting that sent one man to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators say Chadarius L. Spencer isn’t a person of interest and that his name was placed by mistake on the original list released Wednesday morning.
The persons of interest are Tyrone Singleton, Labreasher Allen and Charvis Buggs.
The three are being held in the Union Parish Detention Center on unrelated charges stemming from a traffic stop in Bernice.

‘Mapping Out A Future:’ Bank of Ruston, NCLAC announce annual gallery theme

The North Central Louisiana Arts Council recently announced its collaboration with Bank of Ruston to present an exhibit for the annual Bank of Ruston Art Show in December.
“The old Federal Building has been purchased by the City of Ruston in order to become a future arts education building that will house the arts council,” said Jessica Slaughter, executive director of NCLAC, said. “Members of NCLAC have salvaged old topographical maps from the Federal Building.”

Tech soccer sets fall slate

Louisiana Tech women’s soccer head coach Kevin Sherry announced the 20-game 2017 fall schedule on Wednesday, highlighted by home matches versus SEC foe Mississippi State as well as the reigning Conference USA regular season and tournament champions in North Texas and Charlotte.
The schedule for Tech will once again be split into 10 non-conference and 10 in conference. The Lady Techsters will have nine total home matches.

Techsters add JC All-American Guard

Louisiana Tech head coach Brooke Stoehr announced Wednesday that Northeastern Oklahoma A&M All-American guard Maria Delgado has signed a national letter of intent to play the next two years for the Lady Techsters.
“It is great to welcome Maria to the Louisiana Tech family,” Stoehr said. “She will bring experience and an ability to create for others as well as score the basketball. Maria comes from a winning program and is a tough competitor. She reached the NJCAA National Tournament under Coach Jim Rowland and has continued to develop during her time in Oklahoma.”
