Henderson out as LHSAA leader

After seven years serving as executive director of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association, Kenny Henderson no longer has that role.
It was announced Thursday that Henderson, former principal at both Ruston High School and Cedar Creek School, and the LHSAA have agreed to part ways effective today.
LHSAA President Vic Bonnaffee of Central Catholic High School read a statement that brought an abrupt end to Henderson’s run as head of the state’s governing body for high school sports.

Tech, USM set for C-USA showdown

The “Rivalry in Dixie” will be renewed at 2:30 p.m. Saturday as the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs take on the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
The game will be telecasted on the American Sports Network.
Tech’s series against Southern Miss has trended toward close, wet games with three of the last four meetings decided by one possession and the last three games played in the rain.
Southern Miss leads the series 31-14, but Tech won 36-13 last year in Ruston.
The Bulldogs enter the game at 4-3 overall and 3-0 in Conference USA while USM is 3-4 and 1-2 in CUSA play.

Cougars at home, Kittens on road

Cedar Creek School will be at home tonight while Grambling Laboratory High School will play on the road.
The Cougars stand at 1-6 overall and 0-2 in District 1-5A and will play host to Louisiana New Tech (Plain Dealing), which stands at 6-1 and 2-0 in 1-1A.
Grambling Lab is 2-5 overall and 1-1 in 1-1A and will play at Arcadia, which stands at 1-6 overall and 1-1 in 1-A.

Tech soccer to start home stand

After being on the road for three straight games, Louisiana Tech will now finish out the regular season on a three-game home stand starting with a matchup against Western Kentucky at 7 p.m. today at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.
Tech (10-5-2, 2-4-1 C-USA) will turn around and host Marshall on Sunday at 12 p.m.
The Lady Techsters are currently tied for 11th place in the Conference USA standings with seven points after picking up one point in a scoreless draw versus Southern Miss last weekend.

Tech softball falls to Northwestern

Pauline Tufi recorded a pair of RBI doubles and Krysta Tutsch added a solo home run leading Louisiana Tech to a 13-6 win over Northwestern State in a predetermined 10-inning fall game Wednesday night at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.
Tech pounded out 14 hits and capitalized on four NSU errors and eight walks to improve to 3-0 during the exhibition fall season.

Tech volleyball to hit road

Louisiana Tech will return to the arena where the team notched its first ever victory as a member of Conference USA in 2013, as the Lady Techsters travel to take on Charlotte at 6 p.m. today at Halton Arena in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Boys and Girls club benefits LP

Our community has a plethora of organizations that give back not only to the community as a whole, but to the children within our community.
The Boys and Girls Clubs of North Central Louisiana are among those organizations.
Following are a few of the accomplishments of the club’s staff and its members.
• In 2013, Boys and Girls Clubs of North Central Louisiana members achieved an overall 2.97 GPA for the 2013-14 school year.
• They awarded five Be Great Scholarships to local high school seniors.

Women have right to contraception

There is obviously a huge divide as to how I perceive women’s rights and specifically their right to receive contraceptives, and how Rich Lowry perceives them.
In his latest column he manages to defame the president, call all Democrats idiots, and profess his and the Republican party’s complete innocence in remarks focused on denying birth control to women.
Each instance Mr. Lowry brings up is worse than its predecessor.

Event sparks concern for eating habits

I try to eat healthy. I try to drink plenty of water. I try to exercise at least three times a week, though I would prefer more.
But I am just like everyone else. I’m human. I don’t always succeed at my goals and unfortunately right now I am not in a “healthy” place.
Many of you would argue that I just had a baby five months ago, which is true and that does factor into my overall wellness.
But after attending Lighten Up! Lincoln Parish on Thursday, I had a small epiphany.
