Tech’s Monne named All-CUSA

in

IRVING, Texas — For the first time since 2014, the Louisiana Tech volleyball program saw a student-athlete earn All-Conference USA postseason accolades, as senior Marta Monne was named Second Team All-Conference USA following a vote by the league’s 13 head coaches.
After becoming the first Lady Techster to receive First Team All-Louisiana accolades last season, Monne joins Rebecca Redgen (Second Team All-C-USA, 2014) as the only two players to earn All-Conference USA recognition in the program’s history.

Variety spice of Bearcats football

I’ve always admired coaches like Don Shula who are willing to adjust their schemes to fit the talents of players on their teams.
When Shula had an offensive backfield consisting of Larry Czonka, Jim Kiick and Mercury Morris in the early 1970s, the Dolphins focused on the rushing their game, running their way to an undefeated season and Super Bowl win.
But 10 years later when Shula had Dan Marino at quarterback and the “Marks Brothers” — wide receivers Mark Clayton and Mark Duper, the Dolphins aired things out, reaching the Super Bowl in 1982 and 1984.

There’s a reason William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” continues to be performed and read after 420 years of existence.
The story delves into the complexities of love, conflict and tragedy that, for the most part, still makes it relevant and relatable today.
The story’s two main characters, Romeo and Juliet, are young lovers who should not be together because of their family rivalry. But the young couple fights to the death — quite literally — to be with each other. Tell me you haven’t heard that story a million times before.

Get Out and Fish was a success

Louisianans sure do love their fishing.
That was recently evident during the “Get Out and Fish” event hosted by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the city of Grambling at Grambling City Park.
More than 100 recreational fishermen participated in the free event in the hopes of catching the biggest catfish in the pond.
Grambling Mayor Ed Jones said that was more than city officials expected.

Arkansas’ tack worth trying in Louisiana

in
Bergeron, Nancy.jpg

North Louisiana and South Arkansas have been fighting water for a long time. Not the kind of water you can hold at bay with sandbags and levees, but underground kind found in the Sparta Aquifer.
Sparta water is the potable water source for 16 northern Louisiana parishes, including Lincoln, and five south central Arkansas counties. It’s also the main industrial water source for most of the Louisiana parishes under which the aquifer rests.

STEM Building has potential

It’s full steam ahead for the Lincoln Parish school district’s science, technology, engineering and mathematics initiative.
The Lincoln Parish School Board is expected to vote on a proposed $2.3 million, 10,000-square foot multiuse middle school STEM building on Ruston Junior High School’s campus during the board’s regularly scheduled meeting in January.
The building would expand the STEM initiative to both elementary and middle school students and faculty across the school district throughout the year.

BATON ROUGE — Grambling State University junior punter Miguel Mendez was selected the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Co-Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday.
In a defensive Southwestern Athletic Conference battle at Alabama State won by Grambling, 24-7, on Saturday, Mendez was a huge asset for the Tigers as he punted the ball nine times for 381 yards. His longest came in his last punt, 56 yards. He had one punt called for a touchback, but booted for other punts inside the Alabama State 20.
