Two pedestrians suffered minor injuries after being struck by a 2007 Ford Focus in front of the Ruston Civic Center as they headed into the Ruston-Lincoln Chamber Banquet on Thursday night.
Ruston Police Department Deputy Chief Clint Williams said Cary and Robyn Brown, of Ruston, were struck by William Wright, 52, of Ruston, at approximately 6 p.m. Thursday.
“Wright was traveling west on Georgia between Trenton and Monroe, just south of the Civic Center,” Williams said.
Local children are invited to get their tennis shoes and jerseys ready to hit the hardwood for the 4th annual iHoops Basketball Skills Challenge hosted by Ruston Parks and Recreation at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Bobby James Gymnasium, located at 605 James St.
This event is a free basketball skills competition that is open to boys and girls ages 8 to 14.
“Last year we had about 50 kids come out, and the event went really well,” Korick Wilkerson, recreation services assistant, said. “We just wanted to get another event out to the local children.”
Cedar Creek High School captured its fifth consecutive state championship in Division IV of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association earlier this week with a 33-stroke (648-681) advantage over runner-up Ascension Episcopal. Members of the team were (from left) Johnny Maxwell, Christopher Feron, Jordan Cole, Tucker Smith and Zach Pickett. Cole earned medalist honors with a 78-75-153 scorecard. The Cougars have won eight of the last nine state tournaments.
The 2013 Western Athletic Conference Softball Tournament opens today when Texas State faces UTSA at 4:30 p.m. at the newly-renovated Lady Techster Softball Complex. Louisiana Tech will then host UT Arlington at 7 p.m. tonight in its first game of the double elimination tournament which lasts through Saturday.
