Lincoln Parish School Board District 9 member Lynda D. Henderson today announced her bid for re-election.
Henderson has been on the board since 2004. Qualifying for the Nov. 4 primary begins Aug. 20.
“During my service years we have added new additions and improved all of our buildings in the Ruston district,” Henderson said.
She cited the New Tech@Ruston program at Ruston High School and upgrades to the school’s football stadium and track facilities as examples.
“Our academic grades have improved,” Henderson said. “We have no failing schools.”
In the spirit of the Christmas season, many choose to donate to charities. One local charity that receives some of that help is Christian Community Action. CCA Executive Director Stephanie Griffin said the facility is non-government funded and provides assistance to around 1,800 families each year. CCA receives funding locally from churches, individuals and businesses.
Roly Poly, Ruston’s newest eatery, will open on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at 732 Celebrity Drive.
“This is going to be what we consider our soft opening,” Dajuana Johnson, co-owner of Roly Poly, said.
Johnson said she wanted to bring something different to this area.
“We wanted to do something in Ruston,” Johnson said. “We had been customers at the West Monroe location and we loved the food and the concept. We just felt like Ruston needed more places to eat and we wanted to bring in that concept.”
Roly Poly is a unique sandwich shop, in that they specialize in wraps.
