Man pleads guilty in wife’s death

Choudrant resident to be sentenced on lesser charge

A Choudrant man accused of killing his wife and dumping her body in a river pleaded guilty to manslaughter last week in Third Judicial District Court.

Sentencing for Samuel Robert Davis has been set for 1:30 p.m. Sept. 6. He faces a maximum sentence of 40 years at hard labor.

On July 5, Davis withdrew his former plea of not guilty to second-degree murder and pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter before Judge Cynthia Woodard.
Assistant District Attorney Laurie Whitten James prosecuted the case.
