Jackson, Barnes unite in matrimony
Hayley Chyree Jackson, of Arcadia, and Shelton Barnes II, of New Orleans, were married on July 30 at the Shreveport Convention Center at 6:30 in the evening. The Rev. Norah Banks Jr. officiated the double ring ceremony.
Hayley is the daughter of Jerry and Judy Harper Jackson. She is the granddaughter of Ben and Frankie Jackson, of Arcadia, and the late Whick and Vida Harper.
Shelton is the son of Drs. Shelton and Janet Duncan Barnes, of New Orleans. He is the grandson of Ruth Barnes, of Logansport, and the late Huey P. Barnes, and the late James and Mary Rice Duncan.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore an exquisite ivory, silk taffeta, A-line gown with a sweetheart neckline designed by Pattis. The gown featured asymmetrical rusching through the bodice, draped tucks and pleating in the skirt and hand-beaded lace throughout. Completing her ensemble was a two-tiered, finger-tip veil with pearl and crystal appliqués and scalloped crystal edges. The bride carried a nosegay bouquet of white roses and green cymbidium orchids with the stems wrapped in white satin and trimmed with rhinestones. Her great-grandmother’s pearl and rhinestone bracelet was wrapped at the base of the bouquet.
Shalonda Skidmore, of Baton Rouge, and LaTamra Crane, of Simsboro, served as maids of honor. Bridesmaids were Brittney Johns, of Jackson, Miss; Joan Knowlin, of Georgetown, S.C.; and JaNét Barnes, Brittny Barnes and Dr. Mia Barnes-Gray, sisters of the groom, of New Orleans.
The maids of honor wore strapless, floor-length, apple green taffeta gowns by Mori Lee. The bridesmaids wore off-the-shoulder, floor-length, apple green taffeta gowns by the same designer. All carried nosegay bouquets of white hydrangeas, green roses, green verbenum and green orchids with the stems wrapped in black satin with silver accents.
The best man was Kim DeLarge Jr., of New Orleans. Groomsmen were Jarius Bell, of Ruston; Robert Broussard Jr., of Baton Rouge; Jacques Burton, of Pelican; Jeremy Burton, of Logansport; Kinte Duncan, of Pawleys Island, S.C.; and Kerry Jackson, brother of the bride, of Pineville.
The flower girl was Madison Gray, niece of the groom, of New Orleans. The ring bearer was Cameron Jackson, nephew of the bride, of Arcadia.
Martina Cotton of Denham Springs served as scripture reader.
Ushers were Shane Coleman and Joshua Frank, of Houston, Texas, and Trey Joseph, of Pineville.
Program attendants were Elizabeth and Emily Johnson, cousins of the bride, of Madison, Wis.
Ceremony music was provided by Four Seasons String Quartet. Soloists were Kim DeLarge Jr. and Rev. Norah Banks, Jr., accompanied by James Clark. Reception music was provided by Windstorm.
The wedding coordinator, designer and florist was Mandy Cathey of Mandy Cathey Weddings and Events.
Hayley received a bachelor’s degree in social work from Grambling State University, where she was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and a master’s degree in social work from Jackson State University. Shelton received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Grambling State University and is a fourth-year student at Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry in Nashville, Tenn.

A miscellaneous shower was held on June 4 in Ruston. Hostesses were LaTonya Jackson and Phyllis Jackson, aunts of the bride.
A lingerie shower and bachelorette party were held on June 18-19 in New Orleans. Hostesses were the bridal attendants.
A rehearsal dinner was held on July 29 at Sam’s Town Resort and Casino in Shreveport. Hosts were the groom’s parents.
A bachelor’s party was held on July 29 in Shreveport. The host was the father of the groom.
A bridesmaid’s luncheon was held on July 30 in Shreveport. The hostess was the mother of the bride.
A post wedding reception will be held on Sept. 3 in New Orleans. Hosts will be the groom’s parents.
The couple honeymooned in Ambergris Caye, Belize, and reside in Nashville, Tenn.
