When many think of domestic abuse, incidences of emotional and physical violence between intimate partners are more common.
Although some may feel the volatile situation is more prevalent between two adults, most acknowledge there are negative consequences that affect the children who are also involved.
However, domestic abuse is not limited to those in an immediate family situation, but also occurs amongst another of society’s most vulnerable demographic — senior citizens.
t’s time to start thinking about yard tree pruning. Once the leaves have fallen off the deciduous trees and the area had a few days of cold weather, it’s time to get out the pruning tools. However, you don’t want to start too early in the year. Decay fungi spread their spores more profusely in the fall, and wounds from fall cuts often heal slower. Most years, about a week after Thanksgiving is a good start date, and the end of February is a good ending date for pruning.
Union Parish School Board member Challana Dean wants students and parents at Downsville Charter School to be clear on one thing.
Dean said if construction at the school is delayed beyond the opening of school — which could likely lead to it being delayed another 12 months — it won’t be the fault of the School Board.
“They’ll be telling the kids and parents that it’s our fault, and it’s not,” Dean said. “We’ve tried every way possible to get this started, and (DCS board of directors president and Downsville Mayor Reggie Skains) has put up every type road block imaginable.”
