Woman addresses aquifer issue
Louisiana Office of Conservation Commissioner James Welsh plans to wait until at least late this year to decide on a request from the Baton Rouge Metro Council for a hearing to address saltwater intrusion into a city drinking water aquifer.
A study from the U.S. Geological Survey on the saltwater intrusion issue is to be completed in October.
Eugene Owen, of Baton Rouge, director/chairman of Utility Holdings, Baton Rouge Water, Parish Water, Ascension Water and LAWCO, New Iberia, stated that they are running out of time. Owen is very experienced and was even reappointed to the Capital Area Groundwater Conservation District.
