Omelia Street Mitchell was born in Simsboro, Louisiana, November 3rd 1940, to the late John D. and Armelia Gipson Street and died on February 15, 2012. She was the fifth of their six children. Omelia accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized at an early age and united with the Spring Hill Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers: Calverta and Benjamin, and her two sisters: Sallie Mae and Earlie Mae. Raised in a large family she experienced the worth and love of a large family and desired to have her own. Omelia married twice; first to Raymond George Dancy Jr, although brief- three beautiful children were born; a daughter Carla, and two sons Roderic and Peter. Her second marriage to her “homeboy”, Henry Andrew Mitchell, spans well over three and a half decades, to this union two more beautiful children were born a son Johnathan and a daughter Cecilia. She leaves to honor and cherish her legacy of memories: her devoted husband Henry; her loving five children, Carla (Darryl), Roderic (Rosharion), Peter, Johnathan (Tanisha), Cecilia; her precious seven grandchildren, Ben, Whitney, Raiza, Jermar, J.J., Ahniya and Cameron. She also leaves to cherish her memory, her brother Carl Ray (Beattie), sisters in law; Ikey (Calverta), Pinky Lou and Delores (Benjamin), Inder and a brother in law; Willie Fay; 3 aunts, Vera, Emily Lee, and Doris. She also leaves her wonderful god daughters Ms Tomeeka Moore and Ms Mia Street along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Spring Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Simsboro, 727 Bicks Store Rd., Simsboro, LA 71275. A wake will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the church.
