Earth Day and green thoughts
Sunday was a very special day. It is the day set aside each year to show our appreciation for something we certainly couldn’t live without — the Earth.
According to earthday.org, the movement to officially recognize Earth Day began before the April 22, 1970 rally that is considered the first Earth Day.
The publication of Rachel Carson’s New York Times bestseller “Silent Spring,” in 1962, is believed to have started the environmental awareness ball rolling. The book sold 500,000 copies and significantly raised public awareness and concern about all living organisms (in addition to simply people), the environment and public health.
