Welcoming a new life into this world is not only a momentous occasion, it’s a miracle. Unfortunately, not all pregnancies or births make it to full term, which can substantially increase a baby’s chances for birth defects and life-long health issues. In Louisiana, the statistics are alarming.
According to the March of Dimes’ website, www.marchofdimes.com, in an average week 1,255 babies are born in Louisiana. Out of those, 194 of are born premature, 136 of them are born with low birth weights and 12 die before reaching their first birthday.
