A downpour of rain did not dampen the spirits of hundreds who came out to Lincoln Parish Relay for Life last Friday evening.
The annual American Cancer Society fundraiser, initially planned at the Ruston High School track, was moved inside the gym of Ruston Junior High.
Inside the building, various groups sold snacks and sweets to raise money, and some made the trek around the gym while others socialized or talked about their experiences with cancer.
Retired Louisiana Tech Dean of Student Services Maribel McKinney was among more than 20 cancer survivors present at the event.
Tuesday evening, the Lincoln Parish Library hosted part two of the Keeping Kids Safe Forum in the Lincoln Community Room.
Discussed during the event was information regarding the troubles of technology within the community, and how technology helps create problems with criminals and with our children in schools and churches. The speakers present were: Maj. Stephen Williams, of the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office; Addie Smith, Ruston Junior High counselor; Logan Hunt, youth minister at Trinity United Methodist Church; and Josh Sanderson, Youth Minister at First Baptist.

Each awardee has maintained a minimum GPA of 3.5 and been active in extracurricular activities and leadership roles on their respective school campus.
Art students from Dubach School, Grambling Lab Schools and Simsboro High School recently visited Grambling State University’s Visual Art studio in Dunbar Hall. Students evaluated the “Acts of Faith,” selections from the Sutton Collection of American-African American Art. They also had conversations several of the artists. Lincoln Parish’s Project ACHIEVE sponsored the trip.
