Though it’s easy for suburbanites or city dwellers to go months, if not years, without seeing a farm, the most recent agriculture census for which information is available notes that in 2007 there were 2.1 million farms in the United States.
Employees and individuals alike were awarded Wednesday at a Celebrating Excellence awards luncheon hosted by United Way of Northeast Louisiana.
The 2011 campaign was very successful with the community coming together to exceed their goal.
“The Lincoln Parish Campaign is a very important part of the regional campaign and the growth that we experienced this year,” Bill Hogan, 2011 Lincoln Parish Campaign Chair said. “I was very pleased to announce that we exceeded our goal this year, raising $430,060 — a 26.5 percent increase over last year.”

A Grambling man convicted of carnal knowledge of a juvenile has been arrested on three new charges including violating his probation.
Cameron Gerard Bowden, 26, of 204 RWE Jones, also faces charges of sexual battery and unauthorized entry into an inhabited dwelling. The charges stem from an incident that occurred July 16 at a Ruston residence, Ruston Deputy Police Chief Michael Lestage said.
