Mosquitoes with West Nile

None infected in Ruston, despite quantity in Ouachita

Despite reports that there have been 33 people diagnosed with mosquito-borne West Nile Virus infections in Louisiana this year, Ruston’s mosquito checks have come up clean so far.

Vector Disease Control International has an Integrated Pest Management program with the city of Ruston, meaning that the staff monitor and manage all parts of the mosquito lifecycle.
One of their services includes testing specific species for West Nile Virus in order to monitor the presence of possible disease transmission as humans can contract WNV from mosquito bites.
